DUBLIN FLEA MARKET

category dublin | miscellaneous | event notice author Thursday November 20, 2008 15:00author by Caybarboy Report this post to the editors

Brand new Flea Market @ DUBLIN FOOD CO-OP in Newmarket*

Come to the brand new DUBLIN FLEA MARKET that will take place at THE DUBLIN FOOD CO-OP in Newmarket, D8 next Sunday Nov 23rd 11am - 5pm!

It is going to be a general jumble sale of old and new. Already booked in we have bric-a-brac, records, art, hand made goods, organic goods, food, music, jewellery, clothing (vintage and second hand), furniture, and loads of bits of unwanted junk that may just be someone else's treasure.

The response already has been absolutely phenomenal which just goes to show how much Dublin has been crying out for something like this for a long time.

The Co-op will be selling their dried goods and the Amnesty Freedom Café will be open along with another hot food vendor.

So come one come all and feel free to pass this on to anyone you may think would be interested. Any queries should be sent to dublinflea[at]gmail.com

The Dublin Flea is set to become a regular feature, and will continue on into 2009.

Hope to see you there.

I fondly remember the 'old' flea market that existed in the late 1970s at a huge vacant site top of Grafton street facing across to the entrance to St. Stephen's Green. It was a paradise for bargain hunters, bookworms, collectors and pickpockets. Then they built that ritzy big neo-victorian glasshouse complex called the Stephen's Green shopping centre. Frugal days are back to stay awhile, so I'll be popping along to the new flea market. Is the real action in Dublin switching to the Liberties?

I think the Stephens Green Shopping Centre Is A fine piece of Work.
The entrance across the road from S.G.S.C Was once known as ''Traitors Gate'' if i am not mistaken.

This does not seem to be a benefit or a fund raiser for any cause, just a market for new and second hand goods.

Will we be seeing listings for Blackrock Market here soon? What about the shops on Grafton Street- can they advertise here for free too?

No, the Grafton Street shops don't sell goods at flea market prices. People used go to the Dandelion Market in what's now S.G.S.C. to pick up cheap bargains and to chat to friends and stallholders. You'll never get the same informality in the posh shops. The fur coat brigade aren't the only ones who go to Blackrock market. Someone should bring out a shoppers' guide to all those charity shops around the capital city. As the recession deepens those of us on low incomes will need to spare every cent.

Does anyone know if there's a free car parking near Flea market or somewhere near within walking distance?
