A practical way for Indymedia.ie readers to show solidarity with NIPSA workers would be to begin organising your workplace and talking to your colleagues about joining a union.

"Nipsa challenges NI job cuts
It is nonsense to propose an arbitrary cut of 4,000 Northern Ireland Civil Service jobs, a trade union has said. The Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (Nipsa) has challenged Chancellor Gordon Brown's plans to cut the jobs.
The union said there were reports that up to 4,000 administrative posts could be cut in Northern Ireland.
On Tuesday, Mr Brown said he would not allow strike threats to derail his plans to axe 104,000 civil service jobs. "

"No breakthrough in strike talks
Nipsa has been involved in strike action since December. A third day of talks aimed at resolving the 30-week-long Civil Service strike in Northern Ireland has broken up without any breakthrough. Negotiations between the public service trade union Nipsa and the government are expected to resume next Friday.
John Hunter of the Department of Finance and Personnel said management "expressed dismay that Nipsa felt unable to offer a breathing space for these discussions by suspending its industrial action".
In response, Nipsa general secretary John Corey said they told management that suspension would be considered "if there is a potential package of proposals available for our consideration next Friday". "

NI secretary to meet union
Secretary of State Paul Murphy is to meet union representatives in a bid to resolve the long-running Civil Service pay dispute.
Last Friday, negotiations between senior civil servants and Nipsa broke down, and on Monday, planning offices across Northern Ireland joined the walk-out.
Nipsa said it called for an urgent meeting with the secretary of state after it said officials had maintained they did not have authority to negotiate on the union's proposals because of the potential costs involved.
The meeting is expected to take place on Friday.
Union General Secretary John Corey, said: "Nipsa has been doing its best to resolve this dispute fairly by negotiations.
"However it is impossible to achieve any resolution if there is not adequate funding to settle the dispute over 2003 pay and give Civil Service staff fair pay increases as well for 2004.
"We will be pressing the secretary of state to address this fundamental issue and give the necessary authority for negotiations to resume urgently to achieve a fair and acceptable deal."
