After King's College London forced out Michael Rainsborough, emails emerged stating that he needed to be "brought to heel" owing to his "unique perspectives". Does anything more clearly show the fall of the university?

Global Week of Action against Cluster Bombs

category tipperary | miscellaneous | event notice author Thursday May 28, 2009 09:43author by Sus Report this post to the editors

Film screening and debate on cluster bombs and the campaign to ban them

Tipperary Peace Convention is hosting a film screening and debate on cluster bombs to coincide with the Global Week of Action against Cluster Bombs.

You are invited to the screeing of the short film 'Unacceptable Harm', to be followed by a talk on the devastation caused by cluster bombs and the campaign to have them banned. The Guest Speaker will be Mr. Guy Jones, CMC Ireland and Irish Lebanese Cultural Foundation.

WHEN: Thursday, 4 June, 8pm

WHERE: Excel Centre, Mitchell Street, Tipperary Town

All are welcome to attend.

The Week of Action takes place exactly one year after the historic negotiations and formal adoption of a new treaty banning cluster bombs in Dublin on 30 May 2008.
Whilst the negotiation and adoption of this treaty is a great achievement, much of the real work remains. For it to have a meaningful impact, governments must sign, ratify and implement the treaty. We need 30 ratifications as soon as possible for the treaty to enter into force. Only when this happens will there be full legal obligations on governments to assist victims, clear contaminated land, destroy stockpiles of cluster bombs and ensure there is no more use of these weapons.
