Slan Leat Aer Lingus

Ryanair to buy Aer Lingus

My Fellow Captialists,

Please note that our esteemed financial guru Michael O'Leary has up to today 5/10/2006 purchased 16% of our former National carrier Aer Lingus.

Those patriots bold enough to have invested a minimum of 10,000 euro in Aer Lingus will now be offered 2.80 euro per share, or in "plane" english a 27% return on last weeks bold investment.

and let the poor Oirish mammies bring the expressed breast-mik onto planes
and make george bush deeply deeply unhappy , then they can bomb us and
Halliburton can re-build Ireland and bomb the galleries where the nudey bits are
hidden and then we could all be good US satellite citizens- or we
could ask the fucking unions why they do not on principle resist the sell-out of
state companies to venture capitalists and why the unions let their workers
break community pickets in Rossport.

Feck it its all the unions fault, does Ryanair have Unions.

Apparently the price was too low.
Nothing to do with those ads excoriating Bertie on the second terminal.
Nothing to do with present state situation.

Mr Cullen made a statement: "the competitions authority and EU would have to look
at it very closely"

They don't look very closely at ShellEP, Jacob, CRH.

just at the ones that are anathema to the state.

Well it looks like Micheal O'Leary might grab Aer Lingus now that he has admitted that he has already taken a fair bite out of it. What is significant is the speed at which the government spun out a statement saying that they would not be selling their share. How trite? It was clearly damage limitation and they have every intention of selling it.

From Ryanair's perspective, this is a great opportunity to take control of Aer Lingus and then preceed to asset strip it. Ryanair may or may not use this opportunity to expand into the transatlantic business. What it can do though is take all those valuable slots in the prime airports like Heathrow. Will it not drop all those regional airports like hot spuds after cultivating them for so long? Probably not before he gets some concessions out of the bigger airports first.

If it sells off the transatlantic arm of Aer Lingus, then to some extent, you may be compelled to take a higher proportion of flights via the UK if travelling West and that would mean very likley having to use Ryanair in the process. He's not likely to facilitate the checking of bags through to connecting flights which means further hassel, time and delays. Then again maybe he would be mad to sell that part of the business?

Ryanair will now have much greater leverage over Dublin Airport itself and as one punter suggested recently may use this chance to muscle in and build it's own terminal. The same punter suggeted it would be the cheapest and drabest building possible and you would have to pay for everything in it. Presumably to sit down too.

Another interesting point to note is that Micheal O'Leary has a fleet of planes that are mainly Boeing aircraft whilst in recent years, Aer Lingus (looking to Europe) bought Airbuses.Perhaps Micheal being closer and obviously admiring of American style capitalism then perferred American planes. Most large corporations like to have just one vendor/manufacturer whether it is for its fleet of cars, trucks, computers or in this case planes. So will Ryanair eventually get rid of the Airbuses? What does this mean for the Aer Lingus pilots who presumably have trained on Airbus? And presumably Airbus themselves won't be too happy as it obviously represents the loss of future custom in Europe.

One thing for sure though is that with the competition removed, airfares into and out of Ireland are likely to increase. Well maybe he won't actually increase the fare per se, but he will introduce the increases in other ways for which he has been so creative up to now.

Another funny thing is O'Leary said months ago when oil was in the news and Aer Lingus had announced the introduction fuel surcharges for the Autumn, and that was Ryanair would not be introducing fuel surcharges even if the price of oil was to rise to $200 a barrel. Was this based on the fact that Ryanair has a very new fleet and therefore more fuel efficient than most, or was he just talking off the top of his head because I don't think anyone real knows the economic knock-on effects if those prices were to arrive.

We" the stay at home Irish", are fed up with the insulting inuendo in this and previous recessions that the brains left the country and by inference ' what remains is the residue.'

LOOK ! THERE ARE 70 MILLION IRISH PASSPORTS IN CIRCULATION THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

AT LEAST HALF OF THE HOLDERS NEVER WERE IN, OR CONTRIBUTED TO IRELAND IN ANY WAY.

THEY, FOR A SMALL RENEWAL FEE, GET THE BENIFITS OF SECURE TRAVEL GENERALLY PERCIEVED TO BE GUARANTEED MORE SO THAN AN AMERICAN PASSPORT FOR EXAMPLE.

THIS IS RELAVANT IN THE CURRENT INTERNATIONAL TERRORIST CLIMATE.

IF THEY TRUELY APPRECIATE IRELAND THEY SHOULD ENDURE SOME AUSTERITY FOR THE PRIVILAGE OF BEING AN IRISH CITIZEN.

HERE IS THE PLAN.

EVERY SUCH PASSPORT HOLDER SHOULD CONTRIBUTE AS SUGGESTED BELOW BUT WITH THE EXCEPTIONS ALSO LISTED BELOW.

EACH HOLDER SHOULD PAY A NON RESIDENT PASSPORT HOLDERS LEVY OF €100. PER YEAR
(LESS THAN 2 EURO PER WEEK) IN ADDITION TO NORMAL RENEWAL CHARGE ETC.

THOSE EXEMPTED WOULD BE AS FOLLOWS.

1/ PERSONS BORN IN IRELAND.

2/ PERSONS CONTRIBUTING TO THE IRISH ECONOMY THROUGH BUSINESS ETC.,

3/ PERSONS WHO VISIT IRELAND FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK WILL HAVE THE LEVY FOR THAT YEAR REFUNDED ON DEPARTURE LIKE THE V.A.T.CLAIM AT THE AIRPORT. ............THIS WOULD ENCOURAGE MORE GATHERINGS/ VISITATIONS.

IF ONLY 50% OF THE 70 MILLION PASSPORTS PAID UP EACH YEAR THE FOLLOWING WOULD HAPPEN

35 MILLION BY €100 = 3.5 BILLION EURO

AND THAT WOULD BE FOR EVERY YEAR....................WHAT DO YOU THINK????

WOULD MICHAEL O;LEARY AGREE?
