Call 2 Go internet/Call centre Attacked.

category dublin | crime and justice | news report author Friday May 26, 2006 11:58author by Chris murray - The Unmanageables Report this post to the editors

Phone Bureau in Rathmines Village smashed up

The Algerian/Libyan run Phone bureau and internet service In Rathmines Village was attacked
late last night or early this morning. The window facing out onto the Rathmines Road opposite Boots Chemist is smashed in. Nothing was removed from the premises, nor was there any sign of a forceable entry. The tills and internet equipment are untouched. The large pane of glass was broken in five or six places, with dangerous shards hanging out onto the street.

The workers and a translator were very upset, stating that they did not want to be photographed, but that a large heavy implement was the only thing that could have caused the destruction. The gardai
arrived within two minutes of my call and appraised the situation, three Rank Xerox boxes were affixed to the window with sellotape! The owners believe that nothing can be done because the attack had happened many hours ago. The gardai have not yet appeared to interview the owner for what will be a hefty insurance claim. I have mobile phone images which I cannot down-load of the Vandalism, the gardai equipped with xerox boxes and hi-tech patching equipment, the poster in the window of the garda racial and intercultural office phone numbers. This attack happened either late last night or early this morning the window was left in a dangerous way, it was not reported until 10am this morning.(10.57 am )

This has nothing to do with the race of the owners/workers of this shop. Window-smashing and other vandalism of all streetside buildings is commonplace in late-night Rathmines.

The bill for the broken window should be sent to Tramco, whose unscrupulous management allow their clientele get as pissed as they like then go on the rampage.

'vandalism of all streetside buildings is commonplace in late-night Rathmines.'

True but do you have first hand knowledge that this is only that?

I will wait for more reporting on this event before i decide.

The staff did not state that it was racially motivated, but the fact remains that this premises has been attacked on numerous occasions . The heavy security glass had to be breached by a heavy implement, it was shattered in three or four places. It was not a spontaneous bout of drunken behaviour. The person or persons who carried it out had to find such an implement and apply force and pressure to the surface. Neither was it reported to the gardai this morning by passersby, though dangerous shards of glass up to a foot long were hanging onto the street. The staff did not want to comment except to say that it had happened before and one of the younger guys was very upset. The building is well known in the area as a call centre used by the immigrant community for international calls. The intention of the attacker as far as I can see was to upset the staff of the centre, who wd have found it shattered at opening time at 10am. This may not be racially motivated but the clear intention was to vandalise and create chaos at the beginning of their working day, that is a form of hate crime, as far as I am concerned. That wd be why it was reported here.

I doubt this was linked to a racist attack. There are loads of attacks ongoing around the city against all shops like breaking the windows which seems to be a common source of naughty behaviour. Probably fuelled by alcohol. Interesting enough Indy. M mentioned this attack, I hope they equally mention other attacks on other shops too.

I think new rathmines resident is going to be disapointed. Indymedia is not interested in what happens to ordinary people. if they were they were they would discuss issues such as single women and old people being terrorised in corporation estates by young thugs.

Dubious write the articles yourself and post them if you want them here. Thats what indymedia is all about. It does exactly what it says on the tin. Stupidity abounds with "dubious" posters
