Making Sense of Trump?s Tariffs Fri May 02, 2025 13:00 | Ramesh Thakur
There's method in Trump's tariff madness, says Ramesh Thakur. Uniting his America First, anti-Net Zero and anti-DEI policies is an imperative to untangle the US from strategic dependence on an ascendant China.

Jump To Comment: 1 2As we all know the UN is hosting a conference at the moment which is billed to announce its long trumpeted reforms.
RTE viewers are to be eassured that the world leadership is united on the need for new laws to prevent terror.
But.
big but.
BUT
the declaration on terrorism is not the only plate to be tasted on the table, and despite the sauces of "underlying causes", "right to insurgency" the term "terrorism" has not been defined it appears to me at least on any basis of what "terror" the root noun means.
Eating their brekkie for the UN gig gave several "world leaders" their chance to smile at the smell of cofee, included amongst them at the tippy toppy table the Kings of Jordan and Spain, Bush, Putin, Kofi Annan, ricard Lagos of Chile and the president of China Mr Hu Jintao, Mr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, Mr Mbeki of South Africa and Vaira Vike-Freiberga of Latvia.
Now the rest of the seating plan is very very very very very very sensitive. You'd want to be nicole kidman with an afrikaans accent to get that.
They all said different things before hand, but one which "impressed" everyone was Mt Bush finally saying that the USA would drop barriers to trade with poor nations as other states did. If the USA didn't dominate world trade now, it would be a decent thing to write into a speech. But it wasn't it was pathetic, I could almost hear Geldof cheer---
all over again.
Just coz I see him on all the local telly stations I'll tell you what the King, JC Bourbon of Spain said.
OK I know he's a bourbon, or a bourbó and no-one can trace them, and they did awful things in the past consistently over millenia, but so did mine.
He said, in his on peculiar soft spoken strong word way - "you have to think about the victims and their families".
sin é.
= {You've been done by terrorism you know what the root noun terror means} & you need help, support, patience, comprehension, love, money, hard cash, deep funds of clean investment, straight hand out build your neccesity gifts, reparations from all those who just don't get it.
That goes whether you live in any of the mindsets of Belfast, any of the counties of Ireland, any of the neighbourhoods of Baghdad any of the settlements of the West Bank any of the families of the no-mans land which was (and is yet) the legacy of the collapse of the 2nd spanish republic.

Its not unusual for great or famous men or women to come from the city. Throughout history we find the admirable in proximity to each other. Doubtless we know that our age is bereft of either great men or women. One thing though may interest the reader to ponder : the little town of Yazd (which only now boasts almost half a million souls) gave birth to both president Moshe Katsav of Israel and former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami.
Yazd is in iran by the way.
the reader may learn about handshakes when both were presidents above. & by going to these links see what they're up to now.
