SDLP Pressure British Home Secretary on MARIAN PRICE

SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey has challenged Justice Minister at Stormont about the continued internment without trial of Marian Price, highlighting the gross injustice of her political internment by the Queen of England's Secretary of State in British Occupied Ireland.

Mr Ramsey said, “I raised with the Justice Minister the current incarceration of Marian Price which I believe to be morally wrong given her state of health and the fact that she is being detained as a result of the Secretary of State's action in revoking her license, a totally unaccountable act.  “I asked the Minister to commit to liaising with the Secretary of State on the issue, particularly that of the Royal Prerogative of Mercy which I recently raised with the NIO. “This case is of paramount importance to bring a new level of confidence in how we deal with justice related matters. I made it very clear to the Minister that Ms Price's health is critically important and that the stress caused to her and her family in relation to her care in Maghaberry need to be at the forefront of discussions between the DOJ and NIO. “I want to make it clear that Ms Price should be released and I conveyed this to the Minister and his officials this afternoon." . Marian has been held in solitary confinement at the all male Maghaberry Prison for eight months now, without any charge or trial and she should be released immediately.Activist Pauline Mellon says the public should be outraged that an Irish woman nearing 60 years of age is being held without any charge in total isolation and solitary confinement.  Information relating to the extremely unenviable situation Marian Price now finds herself in has been sent early this afternoon to a global selection of senior politicians and lawyers by e-mail.

As can be seen at the www address provided below, the recipient lists of the e-mail in question -- which was addressed primarily to Ban Ki-moon (Secretary-General of the United Nations) -- includes (among others of "Them") the Republic of Ireland Prime Minister Enda Kenny TD, Lawyer and Justice Minister Alan Shatter TD, Lawyer and Deputy Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore, Chief Justice Susan Denham, and President Michael D Higgins.

I disagreed with you on another thread about your presentation of the argument for the release of Marian Price , but I'd like to thank you for your persistence in highlighting the terrible injustice being done to her. It's shameful how so much of the "left" in Ireland can protest about injustices in other parts of the world while ignoring issues like this .
I realize that you are far away from Ireland at the moment ,but would you please publicize
the Republican Network for Unity's protest on the 14th of January @ 1pm outside the GPO which has been called to highlight the ongoing internment of republican prisoners and the suffering of the POWs on "dirty protest" in Magheberry Gaol.

Re: Suggestion made by Opus at Thu Jan 05, 2012 21:02

The very scary "Marian Price information" was sent by e-mail earlier today to a selection of people in The UK House of Commons, and The House of Lords.

As can be seen at the first www address provided below, the opening paragraph of the e-mail reads as follows:

"I believe it's now time, and indeed the time is at present long overdue it appears to me, that all judges, and all lawyers in the United Kingdom, in the Republic of Ireland, in the Republic of the United States of America, and elsewhere in all of the other sovereign nation states of world, stop playing their corruption-ridden and government-crime-supporting games relating to the protection of the set of universal principles of basic human rights contained in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights text, and, far more importantly perhaps, in all of the vast array of national and international legislation (produced since December 10th 1948) which is based on the contents of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights."

The full text of the e-mail to the "British Empire (sort of)" in question can be viewed at:

Some readers may be interested to also know that veteran RTE broadcasters Miriam O' Callaghan, and Gay Byrne, were among the recipients of a very similar e-mail (i.e. the main text is almost identical to the "British Monarchy/Empire" one at the www address above), which was sent yesterday, and a copy of it is now on view at:

An e-mail containing information relating to the Marian Price situation was sent yesterday to a selection of MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) from Ireland -- both the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland -- and to the MEPs of some other mainland European countries as well.

As can be seen at the www address provided below, the e-mail in question ended with the following pieces of text:

"These subtle menticidal forces operate both within the mind and outside it. They have been strengthened in their effect by the growth in complexity of our civilization. The modern means of mass communication bring the entire world daily into each man's home; the techniques of propaganda and salesmanship have been refined and systematized; there is scarcely any hiding place from the constant visual and verbal assault on the mind. The pressures of daily life impel more and more people to seek an easy escape from responsibility and maturity. Indeed, it is difficult to withstand these pressures; to many the offer of a political panacea is very tempting, to others the offer of escape through alcohol, drugs, or other artificial pleasures is irresistible."

"Free men (and women) in a free society must learn not only to recognize this stealthy attack on mental integrity and fight it, but must learn also what there is inside man's mind that makes him vulnerable to this attack, what it is that makes him, in many cases, actually long for a way out of the responsibilities that republican democracy and maturity place on him (and her)".

"Dr Joost A. M. Meerloo, M.D., (Former Instructor in Psychiatry at Columbia University)."

The continuing administrative detention – internment, of Marian Price is unacceptable.

Even the putting aside, of the Pardon, that we are told has been ‘lost,’ Marian needs to be released on humanitarian grounds. The whim of a British Secretary of State on this matter is both unjust and unacceptable.

As we move into a ‘new era of politics’ this old way of working is a throw back to the bad old days – and is not acceptable.

The growing campaigns of citizens who have both campaigned - and will campaign, for Marian’s release, come from many political backgrounds and views.

Indeed this shows that the British Secretary of State is way out of kilter from those who embrace the peace – but will stand against such injustice.

Marian needs to be freed, and freed immediately – and there are no ifs or buts about that.

Davy Carlin
