IMF Event Cancelled

Anti-IMF Protest
6.30pm - 8pm, Tuesday, November 30th, Department of Finance, Upper Merrion Street, Dublin

As the details of the IMF/EU bailout are released éirígí is organising a protest outside of the Department of Finance at 6.30pm on Tuesday, November 30th. The protest is being called exactly one week before the 2011 Blood Budget to give people the opportunity to register their opposition to the cutback agenda of the Dublin government, the IMF and the EU.

Speaking ahead of the protest éirígí Chairperson Brian Leeson said ‘Over the weekend tens of thousands of people took to the streets in opposition to the cutback agenda of the Dublin government, the IMF and the EU. We have called this protest to maintain the momentum of street protests in the run up to budget night on December 7th and beyond.'

'One protest is simply not enough. Collectively, all of us that care about the future of this country need to build a sustained campaign of protests, of civil disobedience and of work place strikes. The political establishment have failed miserably. The ball in now in the court of the people. Will we take it or will we fight back?'

All welcome. Bígí Linn.

Due to the severe weather tonight's éirígí protest at the Dept of Finance has been cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Next anti-cutback protest is on budget night, Tuesday 7th December when éirígí will join with its partner organisations in the 1% Network to oppose the 2011 Blood Budget - assembling at 5.30pm at the Wolfe Tone Monument on Stephens Green before marching on Leinster House.

I think there might be an event between now and the budget if you think really hard. Maybe next Saturday?
