Net Zero is the new Brexit, "where Parliament is so hopelessly out of touch with the country", Nigel Farage has said. Michael Deacon agrees: as people realise the true cost of eco-zealotry they are turning against it.

'Green ethics' are imploding, says Ben Pile. Economic realities are forcing the question: is it 'ethical' to bankrupt yourself? Is it 'ethical' to make energy too expensive for people to use?

Kilimanjaro Direct “October Trip”

category international | education | news report author Tuesday November 02, 2010 18:52author by revoltvideo - kilimanjarodirect Report this post to the editors

On the twentieth of October, twenty-five volunteers will head off to Kilimanjaro, to work on building a school for poor children in the area. Despite the recession these volunteers are paying for their own flights and are busy fundraising to buy building materials for the school.

The school is on a three acre site at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. So far the staff room, library and computer room and four classrooms have been built up to the lentils and foundations are already down for five more classrooms. The volunteers hope to roof the administration block and the classrooms.

Kilimanjaro Direct is a Kilkenny based charity, founded by secondary school teacher Sheila Ryan five years ago. The trustees of the charity are all from Kilkenny. On this trip Father Peter Muldowney, formally of St. John's Parish is leading the volunteers. Father Muldowney visited Kilimanjaro this time last year and saw the work that the charity has done. He met many of the families in the area who are living in mud huts with no electricity or running water. They cannot afford to send their children to school. This school will cater for those children, giving them an excellent chance in life. There will also be an adult education program which will train people in computers, English, carpentry and horticulture. The long-term benefits to the community will be huge.

We are looking for donations to help finish the school. Every penny donated goes directly into the project. Donations may be sent to:
