Jump To Comment: 5 4 3 2 1I AM A FULL TIME PUBLIC SECTOR WORKER WITH 2 KIDS EARNING €32000 A YEAR HAVING TO PAY FOR A €300,000 MORTGAGE AND RUN A CAR AND PAY FOR CHILDCARE. I CANT AFFORD TO TAKE ANOTHER PAY CUT. WHY AM I BEING PUNISHED FOR OTHERS MISTAKES. IM NOT EARNING €50,000 A YEAR LIKE OTHERS HIGHER IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR. DURING THE BOOM WHEN I HAD TO BUY MY HOUSE PEOPLE WERE THROWING AWAY MONEY WHEN MY WAGE NEVER INCREASED
The head of Boi has announced he's cutting his own salary by 50%: he now only makes 1.5 million euro. This is the spirit of solidarity that Biffo called for.
This paycut is appalling. The country needs its good teachers and medical staff now more than ever. There are a number of other meaures than must be taken; tighten the requirements for dole pay particulary on foreign workers, and more important penalise those bankers and mortgage lenders who have knowingly misled the public and consequently created this disaster. Take a lesson from the Freanch, take to the streets and dont give in!
as a public servant without the right to strike or protest (Army/Garda) i see where you are coming from but i doubt there will be much sympathy from the public. I myself worked as an apprentice in the boom times, qualified in my trade and made "serious" money in the many jobs i worked at in the "private sector". I decided to move into the public service for job security and a genuine "graw" for military/garda work. I went down to earning £100 a week for 18 months wile training and now earn €40,000 per year..gross. I earned a consideable ammount more while working in the private sector !! Im not complaining... my decision !!! I gave up my job in the private sector for a genuine want to create a career in the army/gardai, and now, suddently we are made feel like we should loose our jobs just because other people are loosing their jobs.... thats just blind begrudgery !!!!! The army and gardai were crying out for recruits during the boom times... they could'nt get them.... because it was crap money for a crap job... AT THE TIME !! How the mood has changed!!!! I am prepared to take the pain of a wage cut as i feel i need to make a contibution.. not to the govenment.. but to the people who are loosing their jobs all over the country... please dont begrudge people in the public service their jobs.... it was our choice at the time... you had a choice too !!!!!!!!
I won't get there folks, but I wish you all the best. Good luck with this.
Mark.
