Fundraiser Cancelled

category national | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Monday August 25, 2008 13:41author by Michael Gallagher Report this post to the editors

it's with regret that I have to cancel the upcoming (photo exhibition) fundraisers planned for the 28th August and 5th September.

Looking at things realistically, the amount of funds needed (over €2,000) for the project is too much to raise in such a short space of time, and with that in mind, it wouldn't be fair to ask people for any more of their time and cash.
I would like to return any one-off donations we recieved and am open to suggestions of charities that could benefit from the remainder of the funds. The total received to date is €417.
I'd like to thank you all for your efforts, whether it was your generosity, time, advice etc.

Michael Gallagher.

Why don't you ask the arts council for support? They might provide flights via artflight scheme and since you have some money and a venue etc they might help out. E2000 is not a lot in grand scheme of things.

A couple of years ago a little over two thousand euro was raised for the Rossport Solidarity Camp when an activist offered to cut off his dreadlocks for sponsorship. See Dublin Man Gets Haircut www.indymedia.ie/article/77594

If only there was someone associated with the anti-war movement who had long dreads... just a thought

I did apply to the Arts Council, but we got a two sentence refusal. I wasn't looking for money for flights, it was for the frames and advertising, posters etc. Any photographers travelling to the opening were doing so at their own expense.
If the so called elected 'lefties' had followed through on their indications of support (apart from Councillor Joan Collins) finance wouldn't have been a problem.

The forty prints are paid for and collected and the project is still on, but not for America this year, which is a pity. The content of the work is very powerful and would have made a lot of people think where their votes and dollars are going. The next showing will be in Dublin and Shannon before the local elections next year.

If the above comedians are still bored, take a look in google, I'm sure you will find some sites more suited to your childish sense of humour. If you're really concerned, maybe you could make a donation to the project?

By the way, the arts council don't seem to have a problem funding circus's that ill treat animals.
