Reform is favourite to win the Runcorn and Helsby by-election, overturning Labour's 14,700 majority. Why? It might have something to do with having the nation's third-highest number of asylum seekers, says Steven Tucker.

SAY NO TO IMPERIALISM!!
Anti-war march tomorrow (Sat. 23rd September 2006) 1pm
Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square
I think John misses the point that an Irish exploiter is just as bad as an english exploiter (or any nationality for that matter) it's not just about establishing a government in Ireland, but rather the form that Government takes:
"If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organisation of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain. England would still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through her financiers, through the whole array of commercial and individualist institutions she has planted in this country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs." - James Connolly.
( and through her spineless gombeen puppets!! )
John all Politicians are corrupt to some extent and motivated by self interest whether they be Irish, British or American.
"The Dublin Government" I think they mean the Irish Government, the democratically electected government of the The Repulic of Ireland, Eire, or Ireland. I'd rather have an Irish politician than a politician who sits in Westminister.
Somehow i dont think there's any prospect of Eirigi going into coalition with Fianna Fail now do you? They might have to actually contest elections to do that. Maybe you have info that they intend to. Might be a question worth asking Sinn Fein though. What do you think the chances of Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail doing a deal after the next election. They appear from the "think in" at Howth last week unwilling to rule out that prospect.
It makes a nice change....more likely it makes no difference. IWhen have republicans ever had a good word for ex members. Usually try to shoot them or bad mouth them. Of more importance,if they are former members, it says a lot about their ability that SF are unconcerned about their leaving.
Remember, all people are asking Eirigi to do is outline some of its policies in relation to issues such as the GFA, Assembly participation, Coalition with FF etc..,. When we get these answers we can all then decide who is real and who is not (excuse the pun),
Having followed the thread refered to above (Pat Regan etc) and being more then a little curious about it I spoke to three different people in SF Ath Cliath about eirigi over the weekend. While most (if not all) members of eirigi are former Shinners, they are just that - former members - no doubt about it, although unusually for Republicans there's a fair bit of goodwill between all concerned -differences were political and not personal apparently! Makes a nice change.
All progressive political activists and organisations need to come out next saturday and say 'No to imperialism!!'
Snail,
You really will have to catch up. This issue has been discussed on another thread - http://www.indymedia.ie/article/78194#comments
Pat Regan tried to make the same links but failed to back it up. Eirigi and Sinn Fein appear to be seperate entities.
I'm confused. Is Eirigi a Shinner thing? Ogre SF under another name?
Arms company, Raytheon, with financial backing from the Irish and British government, has set up a research arm at Galway university. Its CEO is a prominent member of Republcian Sinn Fein. Doing research for an arms manufacturer is complicity in imperialist murder. Republican Sinn Fein is totally hypocritical.
