 Nurses look for a shorter working week, hopefully siptu and the other big unions will follow the lead given by the brave nurses. The Irish Nurses Organisation and the Psychiatric Nurses held a demonstration for a shorter working week the day before yesterday. Unfortunately the mainstream media did not give it as much coverage as it deserved. The Nursing organisations have not gone along with the corporatist partnership charade which has never delivered a reduction in the working week or anything that would upset the employers (partners) too much. Hopefully a few brave souls in SIPTU and the large unions will now find the courage to at least ask for a reduction in the working week to at least 35 hours, 30 would be better but it would surely scare the more timid sorts and the big union suits and whats worse Bertie wouldnt approve. |
