Seirbhísí i nGaeilge

category dublin | consumer issues | opinion/analysis author Saturday July 16, 2005 05:45author by Seán Report this post to the editors

Gaeilge

Seirbhísí i nGaeilge

Fuair mé an teachtaireacht seo ó Chomhdáil Náísiúnta na Gaeilge- www.gaelport.com

Tá a nuachtlitir go h-iontach. Faigh e. Ta sé saor in aisce agus lé fáil i nGaeilge amháin, Béarla amháin, nó dátheangach.
____________________________________________________________________________

"Tá cúpla comhlacht poiblí tar éis fógraí a chur sna nuachtáin cheana
féin ag cur in iúl go bhfuil a scéimeanna faoin Acht Teanga ullmhaithe
acu. Tá cúpla comhlacht eile ag lorg aighneachtaí dá scéimeanna siúd.

Cuirfear an t-eolas ar fad ar Gaelport.com. Bígí ag faire amach do na
fógraí seo.

Ar ndóigh ní gá go bhfanfadh daoine ar na fógraí seo ar fad le leas a
bhaint as seirbhísí atá ar fáil i nGaeilge cheana féin ón Stát agus ó
chomhlachtaí eile.

Mar shampla má tá cáin ar do charr á athnuachan agat is féidir an gnó ar fad a dhéanamh i nGaeilge ar líne agus beidh do dhiosca agat taobh istigh de chúpla lá.

Is féidir do bhille leictreachais nó gáis nó fóin a fháil i nGaeilge. Tá tú ag íoc as, mar sin bain leas as. Ná bíodh na comhlachtaí ag rá nach bhfuil éinne ag lorg na seirbhísí seo. D'fhéadfaí a rá nach lorgaíonn éinne iad i mBéarla ach go bhfaigheann siad iad. Is fúinne an cultúr neamh-thuisceanach seo ag cuid de na comhlachtaí a athrú.

Ná bímis ag fanacht don chéad mhí eile. Cuirimis tús leis láithreach!

Thug feidhmeannach sa Chomhdháil faoi seirbhís a fháil i nGaeilge le
déanaí. Seo mar a d'éirigh léi:

Bord Soláthar Leictreachais (BSL):
Ní gá ach scairt a chuir orthu agus roghnaigh Cuntais (Uimh. 4) agus labhair le hoibreoir fóin. Ní raibh m'uimhir chuntais agam fiú agus bhí siad sásta é a dhéanamh le seoladh baile. Déanaigí anois é!

../mailto:service@esb.ie
www.esb.ie

Bord Gáis:
Cuir scairt ar 1850 456 200. Roghnaigh Customer Service Enquiries (Uimh. 5). Cé go raibh iontas ar an oibreoir a d'fhreagair an fón, laistigh de 30 soicind ní raibh deacracht ar bith aige é a shocrú dom. Ní fhéadfadh sé bheith níos éasca!

Eircom
Bí cinnte go bhfuil d'uimhir chuntais agat (ar bharr do bhille) mar ní féidir leo do shainsocruithe a athrú gan é. Cuir scairt ar 1901 agus tá oibreoirí fóin ar fáil go dtí 10 i.n. gach oíche chun cabhrú leat.

Gaeilge
Irish language services, so far.
I got this from an email from Comhdáil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge, www.gaelport.com.

They produce an excellent forthnightly free newsletter that is availabe in Irish only, English only, or bilingually.

I urge every Irish speaker, and everyone interested in Irish, to subscribe to it.

By doing so, you will be au fait with the main goings on of the Irish speaking community throughout the island.

"A number of public bodies have already advertised in the newspapers that they have their schemes under the Official Languages Act already
prepared. A number of other bodies are seeking submissions for their own
schemes.

All of this information will be available on Gaelport.com as soon as it
has been officially cleared by the Minister for Community, Rural and
Gaeltacht Affairs. Keep an eye out for the advertisements.

But we do not have to wait for the advertisements to make use of the
Irish Language Services that are already available from the State and
other bodies.

For example, if you wish to renew the tax on your car, the whole process can be done online through Irish and you will have your disc within days.

You can also get your electricity bill, gas bill or phone bill in Irish. You are paying for it, so why not make the most of it. We don't want these bodies saying that nobody is looking for these services. It could be said that nobody asks for them in English but they get them anyway. It is up to us to change the culture of misunderstanding in some of the public bodies.

Don't wait until next month. Let's start now!

An executive officer in An Chomhdháil sought a number of services through Irish recently. Here is how she got on:

Electricity Supply Board (ESB)
All you need to do is ring and choose Accounts (No. 4) and speak to the telephone operator. I didn't even have my account number and they were happy to do it with my home address. Do it now!

service@esb.ie
www.esb.ie

Bord Gáis:
Just ring 1850 456 200. Choose Customer Service Enquiries (No. 5). Even though the operator who answered the phone within 30 seconds was a little surprised, he had no difficulty sorting it out for me. It couldn't be easier!

Eircom
Be sure you have your account number (top of your bill) because they cannot change your settings without it. Phone 1901 and operators are available until 10pm every evening to help you.

Maith thú as an t-eolas seo a chur ar fáil.
An chéad rud eile, meirg a chraitheadh dár gcuid Gaeilge, an chúthaileacht a ruaigeadh , ár misneach a neatú agus ansin, dul i ngleic leis an saol trí Ghaeilge.

Why not try and learn some Irish and then you might understand whats being said . Ive been embarassed into going back again and trying to learn my own language partially because of these little posts . Amazingly it doesnt hurt , doesnt make your bum look big in jeans nor is it harmful to ones health in anyway .

Why not give it a try ?

"Some of you will be renewing car tax at the moment. It is very simple to do this in Irish and just in case some of the Irish terms are new to you, a translation is only a press of a button away. It only takes 5 minutes and your disk will be posted to you within a couple of days. Use it and your Irish. Click on

https://www.motortax.ie/mtoapp/changeLocMenu.do?page=home

Do you know that you are entitled to get your certificate and insurance disk for your car in Irish? You could be told that such a service is unavailable. However, it is available and you have the right to demand it by law. AXA is very good at supplying this service. Do you know of any other company that supplies this service hassle-free?"
