Hariri's Game (part 5) all sides move to peace.

yesterday in the early morning the Syrian's completed their withdrawl from Lebanon.
the intelligence HQ is empty, swept and squeeky clean.
The installation at Riyyak was the last bastion they had, they quit the Beirut HQ much earlier in hariris game.

Here is a short guide to the events of the past and reactions and plans for the future-

they have now complied with the UN resolution passed all that time ago.

They have also left with dignity-

the last ceremony will be a bit of flag waving, a bit of back clapping and roll calling of their dead.
and will take place in the valley of Bekaa which is just over the border and where they moved all their uniformed and regular troops in an orderly way without incident in the last month.

a new brush sweeps clean.
the lebanese security chief who stayed on to manage the withdrawl from their perspective was a pro syrian, he has now resigned-
"Security chiefs are usually appointed with politics and change when it changes," Jamil al-Sayyed, head of the General Security, said in his resignation letter.

other reports from yesterday - "they burnt their documents, they swept the floor, they took down their little dishies, and they filled in some holes in the ground"

Hariri's game
part 1- "Mr lebanon dies" Feb 16. 2005
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=68645
the death of the billionaire opened a period of uncertainty.

part 2- "the lebanese goverment quits" aka "cedar revolution" Mar 1 2005.
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=68813
the arrival of US lebanese holiday maker protesters alarmed many, most lately Israelis who last week began to tell their cousins not to come meddling on their streets in issues they don't really understand.

part 3- "Hezbollah mobilises demo dwarfing previous gig." Mar 8 2005
as US commentators joked, the Lebanese found the democratic expression Bush was demanding, and it turned out they were all "fundementalists" -just like him.

part 4- "all sides look for their allies" Mar 14 2005

The power brokers were - USA, EU, USSR.

Now the power brokers are -

Israel, France, Russia, EU, Bcn, USA

lots of family tiffs like the eurovision entry thing, the buzzing of the syrian's presidents house by the israeli airforce, the SAMs being sold to Damascus and very stage-managed top level discussion, Condolence Rice got fawned over in Paris, but still wherever she went people got killed, and as above so below, we all presume this goes for her soldiers too.
Russia came back to the table as a guarantor of syrian dignity, Israel got a bit of a wake-up call on the strength of popular feeling on the other side of its borders and the inablity of the US to stop it, and In Barcelona we announced the first Mediterranean Social Forum to discuss everything at social assembly, trade union, peace group, universities, and grass roots level which will be held June 16-18 2005,
and the EU in Luxembourg told everyone to revitalise the Barcelona doctrine of 1995 at its first mediterranean forum in which it got the economist and diplomats round the table.

http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=68964

the first mediterranean social forum :-
Saleem = Shalom = Pax = Peace = Justice.
the theme is "Peace Justice Fraternity"
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=69020
if you can be useful come along, but its not just a T-shirt gig, you have to be useful ;-) otherwise stay at home and pray to your god, be it materialist or not, ask it to be ethical and nice to babies.

now we wait and see, what happens, peace is about waiting.
