Ward Churchill vs. Justin Barrett

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Friday February 04, 2005 16:39author by the censor Report this post to the editors

In case you haven't already heard, Ward Churchill has been attacked by the American national media, and others, for an essay he wrote on September 11th a few years ago. He's received threats to his job, as well as his to his life. Most recently, swastikas were painted on his truck while it sat outside his home. good site:
http://www.kersplebedeb.com/mystuff/s11/churchill.html
It raises central elements of censorship and free speech. He is also not the only American academic under attack by right wing groups.
For those that physically stop Justin Barrett from speaking, any thoughts?

Justin Barrett knew what he was doing when he was seen in the company of the far right in Europe. Barett knew when he brought a right wing racist book that he was encouraging racism. the scum stood in elections in 2004 on a racist platform.
when He opens his mouth people who are asylum seekers get attacked. So he has to face the consequences of his speech. It is a pity those who attended the esf in London had a article in their paper defending the right of Barret to speak. rather than supporting anti- racist activists, Never trust the liberals and their image of left politics.

you mustn't think much of the "working class" if every time Barrett opens his mouth they go out to attack someone

not fit to govern if that's the best they can manage

(though of course it's not, but long live vanguardism)

heil comrades!

I guess your trying to be clever but what is the comparison your trying to make here? Churchill isn't accused of going to Al Quaeda meetings or inspiring their actions. He is not accused of setting up Al Quaeda groups.

Really!! The power you bestow to this non-entity. He needs your attention as much as you need his existence. You'd be lost without each other.

Ward Chruchill called the vicitms of 9/11 "little Eichmanns".
He's on the public payroll. It's not a free speech issue, he's free to say anything he wants to! Taxpayers are also free to tell him it's not acceptable. He could always get a job with Al Jezeera, and say anything he wants to against the USA. He also claims to be an American Indian, although AIM (American Indian Movement) has debunked that...Churchill is just a wannabee

Churchill STOLE Indian heritage for his own profit and ego.

the largest Native American newspapers and AIM have denounced Churchill for stealing our identity to make a big salary at the University of Colorado.

That professorship was set aside for a Native person NOT SOME LYING WHITE GUY. His ancestor was actually an Indian killer.

For years a lot of white people have stolen from Native people, now Churchill has even stolen Indian indentity.

He makes $96,000 a years in a job that was supposed to be held by a Native person.

He lied on his resume to get the job he stole from a qualified Native teacher. I have no sympathy for him.

NATIVE JOBS FOR NATIVE PEOPLES...NOT FAKE WANNABEES.

Just another white guy ripping off Native people for fun and profit.

I don't care one way of the other what percentage of Churchills makeup is Indian. But I suspect the posters above are just right wing trolls as the American Indian Movement actually provided the security at the speech he gave last night, see http://www.infoshop.org/inews/article.php?story=20050208214150291

Anyone who defends this guy is out of their liberal minds. This guy's words/position/essay wrong and evil, and it is such ideals that bred the likes of Al Quaeda, Hitler, and Sadaam Hussein. Those who defend him (yes even from a freedom of speech perspective) ought to be shot. The same people who are defending his free speech (sad as it is) are the same who are trying to rid the public schools from religious discussion. What hypocracy... but i'd expect nothing more from the far left.

Ward Churchill, Native American activist and tenured professor, has been facing threats to his job and life after comments he made in an essay on the September 11 attacks in the U.S. have entered the mainstream media.

Churchill's essay:

Right-wing media outlets and politicians, as well as a few "liberals", have claimed that Churchill should lose his job. Several colleges were also forced to cancel speeches by Churchill.

Careful.
Next you'll be saying people like Noel, that support people who epouse Straussian ideology, should be shot. However nauseating his views are to you and me, Noel has a right to express them and defend the likes of Hitler, Saddam, Bush or whomever it maybe. The world is a far more interesting place with the likes Of Noel, Irving and Kevin Myers in it. I say nay to the thought police!
