Kneecap's vocal support for Hamas and call for fans to murder Tory MPs is obviously reprehensible. But it's just for show, says Andrew Doyle. The police shouldn't waste their time investigating rappers.

Dublin Council of Trade Unions may adopt 1 of a number of strategies about the Anti bin tax campaign

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | opinion/analysis author Thursday November 06, 2003 15:09author by DCTU insider Report this post to the editors

At their monthly meeting this Tuesday the 11th

There are 4 possible decisions that may energe from next Tuesday night's DCTU meeting in Liberty Hall. Let me outline briefly these below and which I think is the most likely that the DCTU will embrace next Tuesday night.

(1) Do absolutely nothing - Issue a statement
saying that they're opposed to the bin tax and all that but that they don't agree with the tactics of the Anti bin tax canpaigners and that instead they want people to lobby their TD's
(2) Organise another march on a Saturday without calling for a work stoppage
(3) Organise a token work stoppage like they did for the Irish Glass Bottle workers in Ringsend last year and 'appear' to be 'doing something' without putting much effort in
(4) Go all out and organise for a mass work stoppage and march like they did in 1979 and 1980

At the moment it's a toss up between options 3 and 1 above. They would prefer the easy option of number 1 but because they're under such pressure to be seen to be doing 'something' they will I think go for option number 3.
