Níl smid as lucht na Gaeilge ar muirthéacht le fada an lá.
Nach bhfuil scéala agaibh dom i mo theanga fhéin??
Liosta reidh anois, teigh chuig: http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-ireland-gaeilge Daithi
"Tiocfaidh ár lá" although heard widespread and afar is actually grammatically incorrect.
The correct version of Our Day Will Come in Gaeilge is "Beidh ár lá linn!"
go to link @ the end of the comments there is a brief reference to that one.

Bím ag plé as Gaeilge ar an idirlín mar bainim sult aistí. Tá neart daoine ag labhairt Gaeilge faoi láthair, sa teaghlach agus i measc an phobail, go háirithe sna cathracha agus Bleá Cliath go mór mór.
Ní bheidh tromlach mhuintir na hÉireann sásta labhairt as Gaeilge choíche ach beidh mionlach ann agus an líon daoine ag méadú i gcónaí.
Bíonn náire ar daoine faoin Ghaeilge mar creideann siad gur cheart dóibh bheith in ann í a labhairt ach bíonn an t-uafás deacrachtaí acu leis an ngrámadach. Mar gheall ar sin, ceapann siad go ndealraíonn an cainteoir líofa níos Éireannaí ná an gnáthduine le cúpla focal agus bíonn siad sásta neamhaird a thabhairt dí go hiomlán mar réiteach ar an fhadbh.
Get used to it though, Irish is going to be a pain in the ass for most people for some time yet.
Great to keep the language alive but didn't ya realise that no one speaks it anymore. The audience of 10 is loving your debate though!
Rinne mé iarraccht an scéal seo a chur suas mar nuacht. Maith dom na botúin. Beir bua!
Maith sibh, lean leis an dea-obair.... Ni feidir liomsa na diabhal fada's a fhail ach oiread

but that Irish should be aware of the un-fairness of the Catalan situation. And the un-fairness of the Gaeilge situation.
In Europe there are thought to be about ten million who speak English with a Hiberno-English accent. Fact is more people speak Catalan than speak English with an Irish accent, even before you consider those who speak Irish as an everyday language.
Fact is very few people out of the Iberian peninsula can tell you anything about Catalan or Catalonia, or Basque. They are ignored peoples nhabiting the most expensive bits of a peninsula whose right to form part of the European family of "mature" democratic states is at times dubious.
Creid no na chreid, ni feidir liom usaid a bhaint as an 'fada' ach ar riomhairi airithe anseo (de ghnath, nuair a bhfuil an coras ag feidhmu datheangach - Bearla/Francis!)
But that aside, I think the major issue in terms of Gaeilge on Indymedia is people feeling comfortable using the language; right from the start it has been our intention that Irish-language material is absolutely welcome on the wire, and although translating it afterwards helps in terms of discussion, stories as Gaeilge should stand alone. I've always wanted to have features available in Irish but never offered to do it, for two reasons - (a) time - most of the time I can afford to give to Indymedia goes to newswire, putting up the features in the first place (and of course oppressing opinions, controlling debate, promoting hidden agenda and the usual fun and games of IMCers), and (b) my big focloir did not travel with me, and thus I wouldn't want to impose my grammatical travesties on all site readers ;-)
Mailing list is being set up at present - I will add the subscription details here ASAP. Purpose of it for a start will be establishing the sort of ideas that people have for a Gaeilge-positive approach on the site...newsgathering, functional bilingualism etc...but in the meantime, please go ahead and contribute newswire stories (or comments to English-language stories). Don't even pause a second to worry about language ability - a large portion of the English-language contributions here are poorly written and structured by anyone's standards! I have had this discussion in the open on a newswire story with 'fuinseog' before and it's clear that no-one's going to jump down your throat for a stray tuiseal ginideach.
Thank you for the suggestions and comments. Is cinnte go mbeidh toradh alainn ag teacht as bhur gcuid speis!
(on a final note for now, don't forget the advice of Myles na gC. that when we're talking in Irish, we don't necessarily have to talk about the Irish language either....that wonderful parody of the Feis speech in An Beal Bocht)
"That Catalan the language of ten million is not afforded official status by €U is as politically suspect as Irish being afforded that status"
Go pointe áirithe aontaím leat a Iosaf.
To a certain degree i agree with you.
Más sin an chás san Aontas Eorpach, tá an cheart ort is scánall(litriú?) é, ach ní shílim gur chóir sin a úsáid go diúltach i dtaobh na Gaeilge de.
If what you say is true about Catalan in the EU, then your right it is wrong that Catalan isn´t an official language. However I don´t see why this should go against the Irish language.
Ba chóir foghlaim óna gcéile in áit comórtas a dhéanamh.
We should learn from each other rather than compete with each other.

when we notice that others speak their language we feel shamed into writing ours so badly.

Speaking Irish, reading Irish and writing Irish is not the same as speaking/reading/writing Basuq or Catalan.
That Catalan the language of ten million is not afforded official status by €U is as politically suspect as Irish being afforded that status.
we ought to be seriously debating in a non sentimental way what Gaeilge means to us.

Ba choir go mbeidh an seans le daoine ar Indymedia caint/scriobh i ngaeilge.
Beidh suim ar daoine tosnu ag scriobh i ngaeilge, ach beidh se deacair chun e a cheamad mar cheapam nach mbeidh an gramadach and litruicain ro mhaith (feach ar mo chuid gaeilge mar shampla!).
Ba choir duinn bheith tuisceannach and deann iarracht cabhru linn fein.
Taim ag suim le cumersaid I ngaeilge ar Indymedia
I agree,
There should be the option to talk/write in Irish on Indymedia.
I think that initially it will take off but will be hard to maintain because the correct grammar and spelling could prove tiring (take my Pigeon Irish for example!).
For this to work we will need to be understanding, encouraging and helpful to each other.
I’m looking forward to future communication in what should be our native tongue.

Go raibh maith agaibh a chairde.
Thanks friends.
Sheol mé an cheist chéanna chuig teagmháil Indymedia agus tá mé ag fanacht ar fhreagra.
I sent the same question to 'contact Indymedia' and am awaiting a response.
Muireann b'fhéidir go bhféidir leis an bheirt again agus cibé duine atá sásta cuidiú tús a chur leis.
Muireann maybe you and I and whomever else may be interested could start at least.
Fadanna
Chomh maith braitheann sé ar do mhéarchlár. Anseo (i dTír na mBascach) úsáidim an litir ansin uaschamóg spéisialta fá choinne fada.
Fada's
Also it depends on your keyboard. Here (Euskal Herria) I use the apostraphy especially for fada's
Ach tá an cheart ag Sheamus alt+a/e/i/o/u nó is féidir altgr a úsáid ar roinnt méarchlár.
Seamus is right alt+a/e/i/o/u or depending on your keyboard altgr plus the rest.

Perhaps an irish language mailing list could be added to the existing set of IMC ireland mailing lists to enable gaeilgoirs to coordinate getting more irish onto the site.

Ceapaim gur smaoineamh iontach e nios mo Gaeilge a usaid ar Indymedia. Ta naire orm a ra go bhfuil mo Ghaeilge ag sleamhnu toisc easpa usaid agus easpa seans i a usaid (ta me thar saile freisin). Mar sin, ba bhrea liom cuidiu leat an Ghaeilge a cuir cun cinn. Ceist amhain afach ... conas a chuireann tu fada ar do litir nuair ata tu ar an idirline??
I think posting more Irish on Indymedia is a great idea. I'm ashamed to say that my Irish is slipping because of lack of use and lack of opportunity (I'm also living abroad). Therefore, I would love to help to bring Irish to the fore. One question though ... how do you add fadas to letters while on the internet??
dear Séan.
Mise freisin ceapaim go bhfuill gá againn gaielge a scríobh,
I too think there is a need to write Irish.
Ach tar eis trí mí pé a cur gaielge?
hay solo uno tu mismo.
but after three months there is only one you yourself.
Tá plé againn cá bfhuill gaielge, nascanna, etc.,
There is a Irish forum with links etc.,
Is tá a lán daoine a scríobh as bearla ansuíd.
And there are a lot of people writing english there.

I can´t write irish to save my life.
