The Dublin Suicide Prevention Project (DSPP) is an education and learning initiative which is being established to develop suicide prevention within communities and equip residents with the knowledge to refer at risk people to reach professional services. The project will also have a lobby function to campaign against cuts to all important mental health services.

Speaking this week Wayne Flanagan Tobin of the project said:

“Today there are many services for at risk members of the community however there is a deficit on the side of education and learning and notably information provision on relevant points of help. Furthermore there is a need for a strong independent lobby assembly due to government cuts to mental health. Despite steps forward there are still many citizens who feel a sense of isolation within Irish Society and there is a need for a new positive project that is outcome based and which delivers for communities.”

The organisation which hopes to formerly launch in early 2015 said:

“Over the coming months we are calling on people to come forward to assist us in forming a proactive organisation which will serve the needs of the community in a positive manner. We hope to use the next three months to formalize the structures of DSPP so that they maximize participation for all who want to be involved”.
