Protest against Political Indoctrination of Irish School Children

category dublin | eu | event notice author Thursday January 23, 2014 10:34author by protester - none Report this post to the editors

This Saturday at 9.00am sharp outside EU House on Molesworth street I will be protesting against the EU / Governments Blue Star Programme in Primary Schools , the training day for teachers who are taking part in the programme takes place there from 9am-3pm and I want to show my opposition to what they are doing.

The Blue star programme is run by the European movement in Ireland and EU Commission in association with the Taoiseachs office and minister for European affairs.

It involves the European movement in Ireland (a political body for closer integration within Europe) going into our Primary Schools and insisting on children their political views of the EU and Irelands Future.

I Personally believe politics should be left out of schools and children should be allowed in time to make up their own minds , Is it now open for any Political movement to go into our schools and insist on children their Political Views ?

All are welcome to Join me , Come along , I will be there at 9am sharp , 43 Molesworth street Dublin 2 outside the EU house .

I think you are very correct and deserve to

be supported.

No to blatant EU propaganda in our primary schools. Just the basic information about how the institutions of the EU "function" in neutral language at a later stage in their education. I.e. secondary school.

Pumping our innocent kids with one sided propaganda so they become mentally unable to see alternatives to the increasingly corrupt, economically neo liberal, authoritarian and militaristic EU in their thinking later on when they grow up, is not on.

I support cultural awareness education in primary and secondary schools. I agree that continental languages such as French, German and Spanish should be taught after class 3. Continental life and customs can be learned through language study - just as in secondary schools until 1971 the study of Latin gave students glimpses of Roman civilization. I believe that development education encompassing cultural and economic awareness of the third world and our responsibilities has a vital place in children's education. DevEd has been done at both primary and secondary level. Political education as such can be gradually introduced through civics education in the Junior cycle of secondary school. In general children begin to notice and wonder about party politics around the age of 16. The transition year is an opportune stage for teachers to help their students to ponder the party system.

Protest Complete .

A good mornings work , I arrived before 9am and stayed until 12 .

A Bit rude though , they pulled their curtains over on me . But I suppose that about sums up the EU , doing things behind closed curtains.

thinking of other protests now , including a protest to reinstate Eddie Shaw Chairman of the board at the Harold Primary School in Glasthule

Eddie Shaw was forced to resign his position as chairman of the "catholic" primary school last summer for sending home to parents leaflets advertising a pro life vigil in which up to 50 000 ordinary men, women and children attended including myself .

I dont see why someone should be forced to resign for promoting a christian message that all life is precious. But Welcome to the new Ireland of Freedoms , where you are free so long as you dont interfere with the liberal agenda .

Protester, it's good to see someone protesting the indoctrination of our primary school children with EU propaganda before their critical faculties have properly developed. However neither should such vulnerable kids be indoctrinated with religious propaganda, FOR ANY RELIGION, at such a vulnerable and suggestible age.

We've all seen the harm caused by the religious orders in this country "behind closed curtains" too. We've also seen the harm caused worldwide by religious fundamentalism goaded on by US and Saudi / Qatari money to destabilise and destroy countries like Libya, Syria, etc etc.

So no to indoctrination of our vulnerable primary school children with political OR religious propaganda.

Lets instead put them on a solid program of critical thinking so by the time they leave school, they will not be taken for fools by any political or religious figures.

Fred there are differences between the two .

firstly , in relation to faith based schools , parents choose to send their children there , it is the parents choice that children receive that education , it is not the States choice nor is it the School boards choice like in the case of Blue Star.

Also religious studies is not confined to one particular outlook , it is broad based covering all of the different outlooks , Blue Star has one outlook only , that political Integration / federalism is the only way forward , it does not look at the other side of the coin or any other viewpoints.

Finally , you dont hear catholic spokespeople saying this :

quote from Judith Schilling of the EU Commission at an education show in Birmingham :

"everybody has now picked up the idea that we will never succeed in convincing people about the value of being a member of the European Union if we do not start early enough with the young people, before they form prejudices and are misinformed by other sources.”

The Government decides to gradually fade Irish History out our schools while at the same time introducing EU History and Studies. Something has definitely gone wrong with this Country.
