This is just one of the hundreds of studies indicating that ingesting fluoride is deleterious to human health. Unnecessary and health-robbing fluoride chemicals are added to public water supplies because it satisfies the political will of powerful special interest groups. Serbia’s Srdja Popovic is known by many as a leading architect of regime changes in Eastern Europe and elsewhere since the late-1990s, and as one of the co-founders of Otpor!, the U.S.-funded Serbian activist group which overthrew Slobodan Milošević in 2000. Lesser known, an exclusive Occupy.com investigation reveals that Popovic and the Otpor! offshoot CANVAS (Centre for Applied Nonviolent Action and Strategies) have also maintained close ties with a Goldman Sachs executive and the private intelligence firmStratfor (Strategic Forecasting, Inc.), as well as the U.S. government. Popovic’s wife also worked at Stratfor for a year. These revelations come in the aftermath of thousands of new emails released by Wikileaks’ “Global Intelligence Files.” The emails reveal Popovic worked closely with Stratfor, an Austin, Texas-based private firm that gathers intelligence on geopolitical events and activists forclients ranging from the American Petroleum Institute and Archer Daniels Midland to Dow Chemical, Duke Energy, Northrop Grumman, Intel and Coca-Cola. read full story / add a comment

Last Saturday week (23rd Nov) in Inver Community Hall, the 2013 Peoples' Forum was held entitled "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? - Who Polices the Police?. The speakers at the event were Clare Daly TD and Mick Wallace TD, who spoke about the recent penalty points controversy and efforts to reform policing accountability. While Hilary D'Arcy who is doing a doctorate in policing focusing on Corrib spoke on policy accountability and politicisation of the police force and argued that increases in police accountability mainly arise from pressure from social movements. The destruction of Kilkieran Bay and Bertraghboy Bay by our state. Nine new cages for Kilkieran Bay and 5or 6 for Bertraghboy Bay in Connemara and more to be added. You could practically walk to them from the shore and this is an SAC and SPA. Again economically supported by Udaras na Gaeltachta and now run by a multinational salmon feed lot operator. Replacing salmon farms that never worked and got huge funding from Udaras na Gaeltachta in the past and this is a SPECIAL AREA OF CONSERVATION. It is a total disgrace. read full story / add a comment

In particular, we are asking people from county Cork as well as from Waterford, Tipperary and Kerry to join with us on Saturday 14th, to mark the Troika's departure on the 15th. Note that the events are hosted by The People's Convention, everyone welcome, however no Political Party banners or promotions are welcome, we ask participants to focus on the subject matter of the events and to leave aside any promotion of personal philosophy or 'ism' - in the interests of achieving the broadest possible unity. read full story / add a comment

Akbayan Partylist condemns the cold-blooded murder of its fisherfolk leader Honorio “ Norvict” Baculao in Bohol. Ka Norvict, as he is fondly called by comrades in the civil society community and social movements, had just attended a municipal assembly of civil society groups and basic sectors in Getafe, Bohol on Tuesday when he was shot in the head by a lone gunman. Dear Friends, Just a little note to bring to your attention our exhibition “And They Tell Me" a memorial to all the women who have died through male violence from December 1995 to 2013. This is a very powerful and simple exhibition, really beautiful but also very shocking. It is only a short window in time to view this work. We invite you and your groups to come to the NCAD Gallery, Thomas Street to view it and connect with the issue of Violence Against Women. For those who are interested we are also holding a conference to reflect on the invisible crisis. There are only 100 places for the conference so you must book, it is also free. Recently returned from a stint in Palestine, the place that most struck me was the city of Hebron. It is here that the illegal settler policies of the Israeli government has led to the most conflict and it is here where I saw some of the worst poverty in the West Bank. read full story / add a comment

The United Nations' convention on the rights of persons with a disability does not confer any particular right on anyone. As a mental patient I have no more rights with it as I might have without it. However the UNCRPD has a political effect. The Irish Government must repeal the Lunatics Act of the 19th century to make Irish Law consonant with the UNCRPD. That old act is long and detailed and makes elaborate provision to prevent the exploitation of lunatics i.e. mental patients. But, it seems, a new law is required introducing assisted decision making by patients rather than providing an authority to make decisions on our behalf. read full story / add a comment
