![]() Waterside Pub Clondalkin. PBP Clondalkin will be hosting a public meeting on the issue of the proposed new water tax to be introduced later on this year.We will be discussing the lessons of past campaigns, and the tactics for a new campaign. Speakers will include local Councilor Gino Kenny and Dublin City Councillor Brid Smith. All are very welcome. Last December’s Budget copper fastened that domestic water charges where on the way back. This year’s budget will put an initial charge to householders of between 170 and 250 Euro. This will be then followed with domestic water metering. People should resist theses stealth taxes like we did in the mid 1990’s. In the mid 90’s, water charges were defeated by a campaign of mass non payment and community resistance. The new water tax is yet another stealth tax to raise revenue for an underfunded and decaying water infrastructure across the state. As a councillor I will be voting against any budget which includes a provision for a tax on water. This won’t be won in the council chamber; this will be won by people power.
