A week or so ago People Before Profit and the SWP had a press conference to launch their election campaign. One of the speakers was Chris O'Leary an ex-councillor for the Green Party. O'Leary said he would be standing in the election as part of an election alliance with People Before Profit and the SWP, and Seamus Healy's people in Tipp. I got a leaflet from Chris O'Leary, who is now an independent candidate in the election. The leaflet was explaining why he had left the Greens and it says about the Fianna Fail and Green Party government "When the Party entered Government I was happy to support them and our programme for government in a positive way".
O'Leary says he left the Greens because of the recent government policy. Many people speculate that his real reason was because he wants to be a TD and he wouldn't get selected to stand in his own area because it is Cork South Central and that is Senator Dan Boyle's area. In the last general election O'Leary stood in North Central and did very poorly.
My point is that the SWP and Joan Collins and People Before Profit have agreed to an election alliance with someone who willingly supported the Green Party going into a coalition government with Fianna Fail. That is a disgrace, O'Leary isn't even a left.
