Your Manifest appears defficient in only two lines.

* The Irish government to expel the Israeli ambassador in protest at the war crimes been committed by the Israeli government until such a time as such crimes have been put to trial by the appropriate judicial authority.

* An end to the construction of illegal settlements by the Israeli government within the West Bank and full recognition of the Right of Return under International Law by Israel.

The list of demands put forward by Labour Youth are all sound - but there's another one that they are in a particularly good position to advocate. The Israeli Labour Party is a member of the Socialist International and thus has direct "fraternal" ties with the Irish Labour Party. Its leader Ehud Barak is one of the main architects of the current onslaught on Gaza (his predecessor Amir Peretz played the same role during the 2006 assault on Lebanon). Labour MPs in the Israeli parliament have voted to ban Arab parties from standing in the forthcoming elections, branding their defence of the Gaza people against IDF terrorism as "treason" and "support for terrorism".

It has never been more obvious that the Israeli Labour party is a racist, reactionary force, complicit in war crimes and state terrorism. Ireland's Labour Party should call for its expulsion from the Socialist International, and act unilaterally by breaking off any ties they have with the Israeli organisation. That would be an excellent gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people at this time.

Sorry, just seen in the meantime that LY have already issued a statement calling for Israeli Labour to be expelled from the Socialist International. That would take a good while to go through, though, if it happened at all - Labour should act unilaterally itself to break off ties with Ehud Barak's racist party and set an example for other parties.
