Labour support Israel spin.

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Friday January 09, 2009 23:48author by Daniel Glesson - Free Gaza Now Report this post to the editors

Have the Labour party gone soft on Gaza?

Can anyone assist with my question. On monday night a motion was put to the floor of Dublin City Council by a Councillor from Sinn Fein. The motion called was a condemnation of Israel for it brutality on the people of Gaza.

The motion was supported by Sinn Fein, Fine Gael, Greens and Independents. I am hearing that Labour and Fianna Fail opposed it and that Eric Byrne, the former TD, was the most vocal in calling for equal condemnation of the Palestinian side!

I emailed Cllr Eric Byrne on Wednesday, resent it earlier today and to date recieved no reply.

It seems incredible that members of the Labour Party, who by and large have been really solid on the issue of Palestine could be so lilly livered this time round.

In Reply to the question re The Labour Party and their cute hoors Within .
If what you say is true may i just add........The Labour Party in Ireland is run by the Smoke Salmon Socialites who are SHY , The L.P. contain a mish
mash of Wannabees who lack any compassion whatsoever , IF they were any efn use at all they would have mounted a challange against Fianna Fail
and the latter's total inability to Balance The Books ,They have had umpteen opportunities to oust the Government over the past 3 years but have failed
to ignite themselves at every turn . Eamon Gilmore is doing his best but with the likes of McManus and Burton to name but a few what do we expect only
the ''expected'' dire tired old voices terrified of being exposed as IDIOTS ,Yes they collect the cheque and the goodie's cleverly disguised as their rightful
rewards for simply filling the seats in the Dail with their well rounded a...s while Acting The Part in front of the cameras for all to see ,then HOME to see
how they looked on T.V. The Labour Party in Ireland had better heed the polls get their act together before we are overrun by Independents next June 09'
Clone Eamon Gilmore ( if only ) and as for the rest sure they have ''pension rights'' hav'''nt they , sure thats all they wanted in the first place .
Correct me if i am wrong .

Eric Byrne is a bitter old stick, his motivation is nothing more than anti-provo.

Nothing new or great mystery here.

Byrne has spelt out who his alligance is to, we all know well those of us who have a brain that hamas was democraticly elected by its people, the election was overseen by moniters, Israel fired the first shots on the 4/11/08, broke the cease fire, they needed a trigger this was it, when everybody was watching the Presidential election in the US they were up to their usual provking a War on the Pals. The Zionists, along with their puppets, the US, and the EU decided this was a terror outfit, have they forgotten "that one mans terrorist is another mans Freedom fighter" like after all was the occupier going to provide all the pals needs. As for Labour this is part of the crowd who are anticipating a YES vote on second lisbon, I dont want to see my Country getting into bed with a crowd the EU, that are complicit in supporting an aparthaid/raceist/murdering zionist regime with their trade agreements, I say suspend all trade agreements indefinately with the zionist state or lets give them another kicking Vote NO.

Joe Costello is the chair of the Ireland Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group (or something) isn't he?

Labour has a long history of being on the side of the powerful against the powerless- remember Conor Cruise O'Brien was a Labour Minister.

& wasn't it a Labour Cllr who originally invited Love Ulster to march in Dublin?

Ehud Barak is the leader of the Israeli Labour Party and is the Minister for Defence in the current Israeli government. It's the Labour Party that is very much central to the war against Gaza. I'm not surprised that Eric Byrne on the City Council tried to do the spinning for his comrades in Israel.
