its nearish a pub, car-park and the tour stop for the yank tourists who spend their lovely
dollars. the whole area was subject to mass exodus and that was one of the routes.
Others include Carraroe in the gaelteacht area, where stands no memorial just a
plaque to victims. the little beach is wholly composed of coral and is a quiet spot too.
Public scultural revisionism is nowt new- however I recommend Carraroe beach,
I have been there with laughing kids who explore the tiny coral intricate shapes
and it was there that many came to a final stop- the ability of our kids to play where there was
devastation intrigues.

The ghost ship is awful- no doubt about it, but so is the spire(spike/aerial) in the
middle of O Connell street and you will find boring red faced men in pubs waxing
on anout how they created these wonderful monuments whils clapping each others backs
and ignoring the heritage destruction round them.

Check out 'The arts act 2003'- all art is tied to government policy, it has not happened since
De Valera's time when Irish Art became suject to state control and people like Mainie
Jellet and Evie Hone started the process of education in Irish Visual art by starting the
friends of Irish art- they brought in most of the art in our modern museums- else
we would be tied to the chocolate box shite that Dev purveyed to enhance his vision of healthy
bouncy white women at the crossroads producing a blessed race= FF and their idiot
friends have problems with cultural and ethnic diversity- indeed Bertie gave out about
monuments and snails holding up progress in one of his stupidest and most
uneducated pieces of bass fueled drivel.

I would also wonder about placing the monument in such a remote place. Its almost as if they were afraid people might see such a tangental reference to the artificial "famine".

The ship creeps the kids out, but there have been discussions on Public sculpture
on the Newswire. One in the US commemorates the RUC/FBI co-operation on
terrorism and includes a plaque of 9/11 (!). Mayo is not known for its cultural life
and its town council, like all FF dominated councils considers Mayo a place
where every iota of beauty can be drained to roll in profit. They are building a really
big luxury spa hotel at the foot of Croagh Patrick for the terminally botoxed to
admire the view, without the penitential walk and they even tried to sell mining
rights to the highest bidder= yahoos.

Two natural springs- one at the Railway walk and one at the base of the Reek have
stagnated and contaminated in the name of fast-track progress.

Just been looking at a photo of the "National Famine Monument" at Croke Patrick. The monument is a bronze statue of a coffin ship. It struck me as a bit strange. Can you imagine the National Holocaust Monument in Isreal being a statue of a train? Sure, trains were used to transport victims, as ships were used to transport victims from Ireland, but it seems to me that using a representation of a method of transport is simply a good way of not mentioning what really happened. Ships did not cause the "famine", or any of the nine major famines between 1720 and 1860. Nor did potatoes. When is "official" Ireland going to take its head out of the sand?

Dejavu is Argentina,etc anywhere near the placesa I mentioned????????Apart from the fact that they are in the Western Hemisphere of the planet[apart from Austrailia?] Buy yourself a book,called an ATLAS! to see the big distances from the places I mentioned.

So in your world all slaves are equal,but some are more equal than others??? If they were white Irish decent they were deported slave labour.If they were black they are slaves then they have more rights because of skin color.
Hmm reverse racisim in action?Slave labour or slavery is the same thing...If Jews Shoa survivors can demand monies of the German Govt to this day for being used as slave labour 60 years ago,us Irish have the right to demand same of the Brits methinks.

Irish names are common in South America because Irish people moved there of their own accord. More of the most famous ones were mercenaries who brought their skills from the European wars to help in the revolutions which brought the modern South American states into existence. That's why Irish names pop up as presidents of Argentina and other places.
There is a persistent thing about us being used as slaves. We're not the only ones who have it either.

It usually comes into a 800 years thing - just around Drogheda & Cromwell instead of a discussion on the trade slave. But we were instead used as slave labour after imprisonment & deportation . There is a big difference. The big difference is that the kids of the Irish who were used as slave labour (but couldn't hack the heat or mosquitos) were not automatically slaves or added to manifest lists as assets on their transport elsewhere. But- that's what happened to anyone with darkskin. Honestly the history of slavery is very well documented. Do some reading.

We WERE actually used as slaves by the British in the 17th centuary on plantations in the Carolinas in the States as well as on the islands ofthe Bahamas ,Jamaica,Trinidad etc. Ever wonded why there is a profusion of Irish names down in those parts??Not because some Celtic Tiger cubs went down there for some fun with the natives! Van Diemans land in Austrailia had some notorious Irish slave markets as well.So read up on Irish history abit more,and you will find we suffered every atrocity that can be labelled under genocide.

There was a meeting of dignitiaries last year to do with world poverty. I can't remember who hosted it but, 10% of the guests got a slap up banquet and the other 90% got something like a bowl of rice. I thought it was a great way to make ther point. Some of the guests however didn't appreciate this and apparently stormed out.
