Pro-Choice Action

category dublin | gender and sexuality | event notice author Tuesday April 17, 2007 12:00author by H. - Choice Ireland Report this post to the editors

Following the successful pickets on Thursday 8 March and Saturday 24 March at the rogue crisis pregnancy agency, an action will be held on Saturday 21 April at 12 noon. The rogue agency is at 50 Upper Dorset Street.

Pro Choice Activists marked International Women's Day by holding a protest outside a Rogue family planning agency on Dorset Street. The Agency, called "Women's Resource Agency" and also using the name "British Alternatives Pregnancy Services", was covered up with a brown sheeting - in an attempt to prevent their identity and location being exposed in the media.

Advertised as a pregnancy counselling agency, it subjects women in crisis pregnancies to psychological manipulation, misleading and deliberately lying about pregnancy and abortion services to prevent women from travelling for abortion services. The lies they tell clients are designed to force women to feel guilt and shame for even considering abortion as an option.

The activists returned to protest outside the rogue agency on Saturday 24 March, handing out leaflets with information about the lies the agency is telling women, as well as information sheets with the addresses and telephone numbers of reputable crisis pregnancy services nearby. 3-option agencies (give information on keeping a baby, adoption, and abortion) and 2-option agencies (give information only on keeping a baby and adoption) were included in the list.

Full story at: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/81395

Join us in picketing this dangerous agency this Saturday 21 April at 12 noon.

"a purely humanitarian perspective "

Was this the same perspective that inspired you to celebrate the batoning of peaceful protesters by the gardai? Humanitarian indeed

Everyone who wants the WRC shut down is welcome. Although if you come along, I'd recommend that you shouldn't start refering to the proteters their as pro-abortionist liars.

Well I guess you have your wish as there will be no Limerick protest this weekend. Its a pity because the Limerick Leader have been in touch to cover the story. Hopefully we will be able to organise one soon. Ive had excellent response from many people. I have not asked any of them wether they are pro choice or pro life as I think its unneccessary. The limerick protest will be in solidarity and to reinforce the excellent work done by choice Ireland at the Dorset street branch. Hopefully we can work together in ensuring that this agency is shut down for good.
I admit that my actions in this protest are driven from a purely humanitarian perspective and not a pro choice one. I beleive it is everyones right to receive truthful, honest facts in a compassionate environment in a crisis pregnency situation. This is not what I receieved at the WRC in Limerick. An agency cannot and should not advertise themselves as non directive If they are not non directive.

This is what the indididual posting above first had to say when the campaign against rogue pregnancy agencies began:

"Everyone knows the legit family planning facilities in Dublin so why didnt the girl go to the IFPA instead of this one on Dorset street that tbh Ive never even heared of. I think both pro lifers and pro abortioners represent themselves terribly. The pro lifers have done some awful things in the past but I do think many of the stories (like this one) are made up by the pro abortion lot.

The first thing that a women will do these days is not go down to some unknown place on dorset street or just anyold crisis pregnancy agency, they will go to their gp. Also does anyone really belive any priest in this day and age will send a foetus through the letter box like that?Maybe some deranged person who thinks he/she is acting in the name of catholicism but not a priest."

So there you have it folks - "I do think many of the stories (like this one) are made up by the pro abortion lot". Bear that in mind...

The same individual claimed to be a supporter of the Shell to Sea campaign, then announced that peaceful protesters outside the Mayo refinery deserved to get their heads batoned by the Gardai.

I have had many dealing with 'limerickaction' she has gone out of her way in the past to try and bring the shell to sea campiagn and now the choice Ireland campaign
into disrepute. She has deliberately tryed to create division and tention in these groups so I feel that no quater should be given in tolerating someone who's only wish is to cause controversy and sabotage the group no matter how noble her intentions may sound. I know this may sound harsh but better to be fore warned I feel.

it might be a tactically better idea to encourage pro-lifers to join the anti-rogue-agency cause, rather than take them to task for not being pro-choice enough?

just a thought

But people should be aware of what and who they are getting involved with. Limerickaction, like the WRC, refers to pro-choicers as pro-abortionists and when the WRC story broke stated: ""many of the stories (liek this one) are made up by the pro abortion lot."

If she's changes her opinions fine but as this story is posted under the title "Pro-Choice Action" they should be aware that what limerickaction has in mind is not necessarily a "pro-choice action."

if she's pro-life or pro-choice. If she wants to see these agencies shut down, fair play to her. I would like to see more pro-lifers take such a principled view on the subject.

"As I said before this is not about being pro choice or pro life"
Obviously it is if you refuse to attend the Dorset St. picket because of the pro-choice nature of those involved and have stated your wish for a seperate campign to shut down the WRC, as you've stated on other internet sites.

'she is a pro-life student who refuses to be involved with the Dorset Street pickets because of the pro-choice nature of the majority of those involved.'

As I said before this is not about being pro choice or pro life its about informing the people of Ireland on these dangerous sort of agencys. If this is about the agencys views on abortion and non pro-choice stance then surely Choice Ireland should be holding protests outside Cura and Life as well. They are not. This leads me to believe that the protests outside the wrc are not about the agency being pro-life. Its ensuring that an agency that lies and falsely adverties itself to get clients is shut down.
I have never refused to be involved with the Dorset street pickets and I have not put my name here due to the intricate setup of the Limerick agency. Those of you who have been there will know that Its members seem to be well known in the catholic community in the city. As a Limerick Christian I have to be sensitive in this matter.

"Her aim is to start a campaign seperate from Choice Ireland which lobbies politicians to bring in legislation on information distributed by non-state funded agencies but does so as part of a campaign that refuses to acknowledge and fight for womens right to choose. "

My aim is to work with Choice Ireland In ensuring that the WRC is shut down for good.

Any other questions please email me

In accordance with Indymedia guidelines I won't state who the person behind the above pseudonymn is. Those who are planning to attend a Limerick protest organised by the above poster should be aware that she is a pro-life student who refuses to be involved with the Dorset Street pickets because of the pro-choice nature of the majority of those involved. Her aim is to start a campaign seperate from Choice Ireland which lobbies politicians to bring in legislation on information distributed by non-state funded agencies but does so as part of a campaign that refuses to acknowledge and fight for womens right to choose.

I attended the WRC a number of weeks ago in their Southwestern branch. The 'advice' I was given for my pregnancy was shocking and the information given to me,completly untrue. To reinforce the Dublin picket and ensure that this rogue agency ceases buisness I propose the same action on Saturday at their southwestern branch. This protest isnt about being pro choice or pro life its about ensuring that women throughout Ireland are allowed make an informed decscion themsleves without distressing and untruthful information.

If anyone in Limerick, kerry, cork or the surrounding areas is intrested in sparing two hours on Saturday for this important cause please email me at limerickaction@gmail.com
