Jump To Comment: 2 1As far as I can remember about 5 to 10 years ago NewScientist magazine carried an article on radioactive contamination somewhere in around London. It was caused when a small experimental reactor in the 1950s was decommisioned and it was dumped by contractors who dumped parts of it in an ordinary landfill dump.
This may well be the same place.
Actually here's a report from the Ecologist that describes the prosecution of the UK Atomic Energy Authority for dumping nuclear waste in a landfill in Scotland. So this type of activity was not unusual a number of years ago.
