Stanley to be candidate

Laois/Offaly Sinn Fein held their official Election Launch on Tuesday 3rd of April at 8:30pm in the Town Hall, Mountmellick, Co. Laois. Speakers included Cllr. Brian Stanley, and an Sinn Fein MLA from Northern Ireland.

Considering the outstanding electoral performance in the six counties it was an important occasion to profile the party and it’s candidate for Laois/Offally in the forthcoming General Election, Mr. Brian Stanley. It provided an opportunity to outline the priorities for the campaign and the views of both members and supporters were welcomed. The speaking list included the Mr. Dick Fitzpatrick (Director of Elections), Mr. Brian Stanley (Election Candidate and Portlaoise Mayor), and also a Sinn Fein MLA from the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The Launch was followed by sandwiches in Dowling’s Pub, Mountmellick, for those who wished to avail of the refreshments.

The Laois/Offaly Cumann will also hold an Easter Commemoration on Easter Sunday in Portlaoise town, beginning at Shaws Department Store on Main Street at 1:00pm sharp and progressing to the New Cemetery on the Stradbally Road.

"an Sinn Fein MLA from Northern Ireland."

Do you not know his/her name and since when did republicans call the six counties NORTHERN IRELAND. Just another sign SF have fully accepted Brithish Rule in Eire.

It was Barry McElduff MLA from West Tyrone.

The use of the word "Northern Ireland" was only issued in the typed press release because individual cumann members felt that while we do not accept the partition of North and South, it still exists and therefore the proper title should be used in a public press release.

We are still devoted to working for a single and united Ireland of equals, regardless of the terminology used.
