Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4There have been many calls for unity of the Tara campaign here over the last number of months and this appears to be the only definite response.
Surely, there are better ways of calling a meeting than at the last minute, on Indymedia and convened at a fireside at 9pm in the cold/dark of the Hill of Tara? How many people even know where the vigil camp is situated?
Can I see long term campaigners visiting this meeeting? No, I cannot so it will not be a unity meeting just those on the margins of the campaign who think that living on Tara is going to stop the motorway through the valley. What absolute rot. Indeed, there are those who are seriously concerned about the idea of people camping on the hill at all. A sacred place, never used for living but for burial and ritual.
Has any 'sensible' person thought of organising a meeting somewhere 'sensible' like a hotel room, a college. Surely NUIM could host such a meeting where everyone who really cares about Tara and the future of this campaign might come together? That would surely be a better idea?
Hi Equally Frustrated
I am one of the people who suggested getting together for a meeting next week to keep up the momentum of the March in Navan last Saturday, and to pool our ideas about where the campaign should go from here. Speaking for myself, I would rather start talking to people and doing something in the next few days than wait another week or another month.
Yes, it is rather last minute but that's only because it is spontaneous and hopefully will only be the first of many more meetings.
As to the venue, the good people who keep the vigil on the Hill of Tara invited and welcomed people to hold next week's meeting at the camp. They are not on the margins of the campaign - on the contrary they are deeply committed, at great inconvenience to themselves, and anybody who has visited them will know of their generosity of spirit and purity of purpose. In fact, it was they who did most of the ground work to publicise the March for Tara on Saturday, going door to door to leaflet thousands of houses around Navan etc.
However, in the coming weeks, if more people meet to combine their efforts for the campaign, a venue such as a hotel or hall would be more convenient for people to get to and would also fit a larger number of people. This can be suggested next Tuesday and venues and times can always be changed - these things are not written in stone!
And remember, there is nobody in charge here. There is no reason why you can't be the person to arrange a venue or a meeting!
Thanks
Terri
Unity comes from comm'unity '. Some of the community of activists and artists will not work
in a campaign that is driven by a political agenda, where the second issue is Tara and
the first is political control. Where personal identification with a campaign supercedes
the necessity of everyone being involved.
That is impossible given the control and dominance of Salafia.
The closing down of lists.
The mantainance of a 'Party Line'
The divide and conquer- to weaken other voices.
it all fits under one person's drive and ambition and if you cannot accept that
then you are out. This is not unity it is dominance.
There is no leader in Tara. There is a self-willed, self-directed publicity campaign
that does not account for the fact that many people who have Tara at heart will
not work with the self-appointed leader.
And he knows this.
He is willing to drain Tara of resources to continue his drive of self- identification
with the issue.
Two people have quit this morning. Many more will.
One Question:
If one is a leader then one learns to make use of the talents of the people involved in the
issue, not censor bully and alienate them into accepting 'leadership' because everyone
else has been alienated to achieve that 'leadership'.
Why then are many people not willing to work with VS?
And is this the way?
Taken from HillofTara e-list.
A very positive meeting between members of three groups campaigning for
Tara was kindly hosted by the Vigil on the Hill last Tuesday and it was
decided to hold another this weekend.
TaraWatch, the Tara Vigil and the local Save Tara Skryne Valley group
have agreed to formally work together on some upcoming events and
projects.
