Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5In the former EU 15, there are close to 40,000,000 less young people than in the 1960s as a result of the secularisation of Europe. To put it another way; the birth rate has collapsed in Europe. Having children is a costly business. Our young men and women can have a great time if they don’t have kids. Banks, Property Speculators, Multi National companies are attracted to States whose Governments allow such an exploitable group of young people to exist. Women, who do not have to stay at home, make terrific employees utilising inherent skills from eons of child rearing. They have a lot more money to spend on luxury goods etc. Don’t fool ourselves that we only have the booming finances that make us unique with our so called “Celtic Tiger”. Germany, Italy, France had their versions of the Celtic Tiger in the 70s and 80s.
Now these economies are on the other side of the ascending economic graph – rapidly going downwards. What you now have is an increasingly aged wealthy society. Now this society needs to be defended. We are part of the EU and have to shoulder our responsibility as well as enjoying ourselves. WE have made this choice by allowing ourselves be persuaded by people with only exploitative degrees in their education i.e. Economists, Bankers, Accountants etc rather than knowledgeable degrees in Christian Doctrine, Latin, Greek, History etc. The former young people of Europe, now elderly and childless, have to be protected from attack from those who have not. We choice Wealth over Christianity. We sow what we reap!
I agree with the writer of the head article. Ireland should not join any European Army because I do not believe that the EU of today is a viable future entity. It is not Terrorism in the world that creates unstableness but the continued dwindling birth rate in countries that were former colonists and are now old and wealthy. The Irish should be perfectly aware of long memories and the resulting conflict (birth rate collapsed among the Unionists in the 60s and 70s, remember Paisley mouthing out that we were ruled from Rome; however the Nationalists started to get the upper hand in the 80s and 90s, more children that could demand more equitable distribution of wealth etc) since our own internal affairs have being so messed up with events after 1690 etc. Has the EU got a future? The answer is NO, when we have to start pouring resources into the army. We have got to look at our lifestyle.
We in Ireland have a small window of opportunity to review the birth rate situation and try to correct it. Then when we know that we have a future; it will be worth defending. Ireland is one of the few countries in Europe that can demographically send its young men to war. Incidentally, there are c. 250,000 less children under twenty years of age in Ireland today than in the early 80s.
JFH - surely you mean we reap what we sow?
In any case, this is all excellent news, and it means that there will be more of your excellent army working for novus ordo. Of course it is time that you stood up alongside Knocknagoshel and paid your membership fees.
That Ireland did not join the allied fight against the nazis is shameful, but now you can make amends. You have a great army, well motivated, trained and equipped (though hopelessly short on medium lift helis and no air defence, but never mind). They have done you proud many times while on arduous peace-keeping / enforcement missions and are well respected amongst your peers in the EU.
Welcome onboard!
An bhfuil dul amú orm nó nach raibh arm na hÉireann ar fiannas ar fud an domhain le 50 bliain anuas i bhfeachtais na Náisiún Aontaithe agus an neodracht chéanna i bhfeidhm?
