category national | crime and justice | opinion/analysis author Friday June 16, 2006 14:24author by Stardust Report this post to the editors

Different tales from St Fintan’s cemetery

While thosands will attend St Fintan’s cemetery in Sutton today for Mr Haughey's funeral there are the remains of 5 other northside Dubs that people should remember are buried there. The unidentified remains of five victims of the Stardust Fire.

The government and Mr Ahern should pay for the DNA tests that is needed to identify these remains.

The Stardust Committee say they are holding a protest in Dublin next Tuesday regarding it. Anyone know details?

Daily Ireland today

Stardust families seek DNA testing at cemetery

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has been urged to help the families of five victims of the Stardust fire.
The Stardust Victims’ Committee will next week launch a campaign to have DNA testing on the unidentified remains of five victims of the 1981 blaze.
The remains lie together in St Fintan’s cemetery in Sutton.
Today thousands, including Mr Ahern, will be in St Fintan’s cemetery to attend the funeral of the late taoiseach Charlie Haughey.
The Stardust Victims’ Committee wrote last month to the Department of Justice and the Department of the Taoiseach requesting funding for the testing.
Both departments have acknowledged the request but have not given any firm indication to the families regarding possible funding.
A spokesperson for the justice department told Daily Ireland that once a letter is acknowledged it means that it is currently being considered.
She said she could give no indication of when the committee would receive a firm answer to their funding request.
On February 14, 1981, 48 people died in a fire at the Stardust nightclub in Artane, north Dublin.
“Over the years the expertise for the testing was not there,” spokeswoman Antoinette Keegan told Daily Ireland.....

The stardust familes have been ignored for so long it makes me sick, the government just wants to get past this year and when the anniversary talk is all over then everyone will forget about it again!!!

there should be a public inquiry now.

someone in the stardust committee should run against Bertie in the next election make him sweat because of this.

60,000 plus it is still less than Bertie spends on make up each year!

the committee should also picket Bertie's office bring the protests to his door
