STATEMENT BY PAT RABBITTE TD
Leader of the Labour Party
Monday, 3 April, 2006

“I am delighted to welcome Keith Martin into membership of the Labour Party.

“Keith has been a most impressive member of Westport Town Council since his election in June 2004 and this is an important advance for the Labour Party in Mayo.

“As a Mayo man myself I am greatly encouraged by the revitalisation of the Labour Party in the county. We have already selected Harry Barrett as our candidate for the constituency in the next general election and I am confident that he will make a real impact whenever the election comes.

“The acquisition of such a capable and committed councillor as Keith Martin will give the party a further boost.

“I know that there are many others in Mayo who share the values of the Labour Party and I hope that they will join with us in putting this government out and offering the people a real alternative at the next election.”
