Present case numbers for the ?K? variant Super-Flu don't justify the hype, says Dr David Livermore. Perhaps it's the media lust for fear porn, or perhaps the Government's fear of the strike, but it's not a Super-crisis.

RSF To Take Part In Anti Poverty Events in Dublin And Edinburgh
Statement By RSF Vice President Des Dalton

Republican Sinn Fein members and supporters are taking part in the ‘Make Poverty History’ events in Dublin today (June 30) and Edinburgh over the weekend (July 2\3). With our own banner we will be joining in the calls for the Dublin government to honour its commitment to contribute 0.7% of the 26 Counties GNP to overseas aid by 2007, a pledge it has reneged on.

But on a wider level we are taking part to highlight the fact that the G8 countries political and economic agenda is the new imperialism of the 21st century. Their goal is the enrichment of the most powerful industrialised states of the northern hemisphere regardless of the cost in terms of people or the environment.

This ruthless acquisition and exploitation of natural resources is there for all to see in Iraq where the US and Britain have waged a vicious and illegal war of conquest on the Iraqi people in order to control that nations vast oil reserves.

Nearer to home the national rights of many nations continue to be denied, be it here in Ireland, where part of our country remains under British occupation or Brittany, the Basque country, Scotland, Wales or the other stateless nations of Europe. This denial of national democracy would only be compounded by the creation of a militarised EU super state, which is also a central part of the new economic and political order, which Bush\Blair and their friends are building. All imperialism is the same be it directed from London, Washington, Paris, Madrid or Brussels.

Over the weekend leading members of RSF will joining with our members in Scotland to participate in events in Edinburgh including the alternative G8 summit on Sunday.
