There's method in Trump's tariff madness, says Ramesh Thakur. Uniting his America First, anti-Net Zero and anti-DEI policies is an imperative to untangle the US from strategic dependence on an ascendant China.

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | press release author Thursday December 04, 2003 17:39author by Dublin Grassroots Report this post to the editors

Responding to the call from the Irish Anti-War Movement for a blockade of Shannon Warport this Saturday December 6th, Dublin Grassroots is running a bus from Dublin to Shannon leaving from Liberty Hall at 9am.

By adding our numbers and our experience of Non-Violent Direct Action we hope to assist in ensuring the effectiveness of the blockade.

Our actions will be organised non-hierarchically.

The success of this event depends on numbers so we encourage anyone who can participate to do so.
All levels of participation can contribute.

Phone 086 1770439 for info.

An adaptation of 'Parcel of Rogues', if you have the Luke Kelly collection one original version is on it.

------

Parcel of rogues – at Shannon

Farewell to all our neutral fame
Farewell our ancient glory
Farewell to our anti-colonial name
So famed in martial story
Now planes come down o'er the Shannon sands
And Gardai patrol to the ocean
To mark where the yankees warplanes land
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation

What force or guile could not subdue
Thro' many warlike ages
Is wrought now by cowards few
For hireling traitor's wages
The English steel we could disdain
Secure in valor's station
But we are bought and sold for US gold
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation

O would 'ere I had seen the day
That Bertie thus could sell us
My auld grey head had lain in clay
Wi' White and rebel Connolly
But pith and power to my last hour
I'll make this declaration
That we're bought and we’re sold for Yankee gold
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation

"Our actions will be organised non-hierarchically". What a load of rubbish. I've been on things like this before- "non-hierarchically", this means a tiny number of nameless, faceless arseholes control everything and let on everything is democratic and open. Its always full of informal hierarchy. Don't try and tell me than you won't plan your actions at all that everything is just loose and not planned/ structured what you will do. You will and one or two behind the scenes will make all the decisions. I'm all for organisation- open and transparent. You slag off leftist organisations all the time for controlling, etc. but you guys do it too. I've been there seen it myself! If you say "Our actions will be organised non-hierarchically" it seems to me that you somehow believe that we can't organise an event with structure and palnning without corrupt individuals controlling everything (hence your statement), so what hope you you guys hold for the future? Can society never be organised equally?? I'm confused- this is why I find this sort of political view point such a load of rubbish. Just my view, thats all I wanted to say.
