The power outage in Spain and Portugal wasn't caused by extreme weather, but by an over-reliance on wind and solar. If the UK continues on its headlong path to Net Zero, we can expect similar failures.

Why do we fail to deport those whom we should deport? It's due in the end, says Dr David McGrogan, to an excess of pity. We are pitying ourselves into disorder and social decay. We need to be willing not to be nice.

A crazy & outrageous move by the establishment. Many of the papers have been running biographical features on who Joe Higgins is. If the country did not know who Joe Higgins or the Socialist Party is - they sure know now!! Joe's seat is secure for the next hundred years!!

Great personal sacrifice by Joe & Clare - but this stupid move by the establishment will greatly help to advance the left in Ireland. Maggie Thatcher must be behing the controls!

As Conor says, get your ass's to the Joy this evening for Joe & Clare!!

That march is at 7.30pm tonight, not 7pm. Will probably be leaving the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square around 8pm to walk to the gates of Mountjoy.

There will be a demonstration in solidarity with the jailed Dublin anti-bin tax campaigners Joe Higgins and Clare Daly in Cork this evening. It will be held at City Hall (Anglesea Street entrance) from 5-7pm.

I'm not sure who's organising it but it will be representative of various groups in the city including the Householders Against Service Charges group.

Short solidarity blockade was held this morning at St Donaghs Road in Donaghmede. Very good reaction from bin workers, the truck was blockedd for half a hour and then allowed to proceed. This was the first DA in Dublin North East with the anti-bin tax battle.

saw on the 9 oclock news that cops est. 2500, organisers saying 5000 - so that would make it about 4000???

Great to see (even if only briefly on the telly). I also heard that Rosie Kane (SSP) and Dave Nellist from the English SP were speaking.

Anyone hear Lawlor on Joe Duffy this avo? That man makes my skin crawl. As me da says, he just oozes sleaze.

Story on the RTE site says that the gardai said 1,500 - 2,000. I was there, am quite tired (and a bit stiff). In so far as it is possible to count these things, I thought it was somewhere between 4,500 and 5,000. When we got to Mountjoy there were a few hundred more waiting there.
