The Establishment has been in "denial" over the ethnicity of grooming gangs and repeatedly relied on flawed data to dismiss claims about Asian grooming gangs as "sensationalised, biased or untrue", a report has found.

Abortion debate escalates in Turkey… What have we learned from the Irish situation?

In recent days, Turkish prime minister has announced his objection to abortion during his speeches at various conferences and events. He has publicly stated that “he sees abortion as a murder” and that “it should be banned”

This generated reactions from all sides and the discussions have intensified in the country between, civil societies, pro-life/pro-choice groups and political parties.

Abortion debate at the moment is the biggest issue in the country and recently the government has announced their plan to introduce a new law to ban abortion. The government party AKP has the clear majority in the parliament.

Where will this lead to? Will this be a good step forward or a bad one?

It is seldom that Ireland and Turkey have a common current issue on aspects of life and society. The history of abortion debate in Ireland gives us valuable perspectives on this matter.

There are a lot of questions to consider.
Is abortion just a legal/biological issue?
What are the right to life and right to choice arguments?
Abortion and women’s rights?
And of course, the politics of abortion...

Surely there must be some messages from Ireland’s experience to the Turkey’s debate on this…

Join us to listen and contribute to views presented by strong speakers on this matter.
