Contract cleaners protested outside the Department of Enterprise against proposals to dismantle their Employment Regulation Order (ERO)which sets pay and conditions for their sector.
The proposals would result in pay cuts for some of the lowest paid workers in the state, as Sunday Premiums and overtime rates would be done away with.
Minister Bruton's plans to cut pay for low paid workers extends beyond the 23000 contract cleaners employed in this country, and includes another 300,000 workers in low paid sectors such as security, hotels, hairdressing, retail and catering
