REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY (R.N.U.) Ard Chomhairle member, CARL REILLY, has expressed anger at the brutal treatment of Political Prisoner, Colin Duffy.

Mr. Reilly said; “Last August, RNU gave its guarded welcome to a resolution of a protracted dispute at Maghaberry Gaol. Yet, our Network qualified that approval given that historically British authorities renege on agreements between its Prison Service and Republican Prisoners.

Alas, Political Prisoners in Maghaberry continue to be subjected to wicked assaults, degrading strip searches and vindictive harassment. On Tuesday Lurgan Republican, Colin Duffy was beaten by riot-clad members of the Loyalist P.O.A. before his clothes were brutally cut from his body. He was again beaten and was forced to endure another strip search the following day by bigoted Screws.

Mr. Reilly concluded; “Assaults on defenseless Political Prisoners must be resisted and exposed. RNU call upon all Irish Republicans, Socialists and Human Rights Activists, to unite once again and support our imprisoned comrades.
Finally, the Republican Network for Unity demands that the prison Administration honour its pledges to Republican Prisoners, their Representatives and of course Mediators. Its failure to do so will merely increase tension both inside and outside the gaol”.
