End the cuts & bailouts! Let the bankers pay for their crisis!
Protest against the government at the re-opening of the Dail starting from Anglo Irish Bank, Stephens Green 29th September 12.30 pm.
The 29th September marks an international day of protest that has been called by the European Trade Union Confederation against the policies being pursued across the continent making working people and the unemployed and anybody who depends on public services pay for the economic crisis. The day will be marked by a general strike in Spain and mass demonstrations organised by the trade union movement in the rest of Europe.
IN DUBLIN the 29th September also happens to be the same day the Dáil resumes its business after an obscenely long ‘summer’ break. The Fianna Fáil/Green government are planning further cutbacks to the tune of at least €3 billion in the next budget. The cost of Anglo Irish Bank alone to the taxpayer has been €25 billion to date and predicted to rise to between €35 - €39 billion if the government continues with this policy.
THE GOVERNMENT spin that all the pain we have been asked to swallow would be rewarded with a pick up in the economy and that the worst is all behind us has been shown up as lies.
THE CIVIL and Public Service Union (CPSU) Activist Group and Joe Higgins MEP last month issued the call for a lunch time protest on the Dáil on 29th September. This has been endorsed by a number of trade union activists from IMPACT, SIPTU, IWU, UNITE, TEEU, IBOA, TUI, ASTI, INTO as well as left parties and campaigning groups who see the need for a real fightback. ICTU have subsequently also made the call for people to protest and effort must be made by all of the unions to get as many out on the streets as possible.
WE NEED an active response to this government’s attacks. The 29th September protest at the Dáil can be a meeting point for workers from all sectors, private and public, the unemployed, community and hospital campaigns, students and pensioners – all who are in this government’s sights for further cuts and unjust taxes.
SHOW YOUR opposition to the government's disastrous policies and to the dumping of billions into the Anglo Irish black hole by joining with other trade unionists and workers on the 29th September.
