The public's indifference to art has never been greater. No wonder, says Ferro: it's all just tired Left-progressive politics by another means. But the fightback for real art that moves the human soul has begun.

Not until Leo XIV did we have a picture of a holy man staring at an ice cube with his hand on it, respectfully gazing as if imagining the whisky that could go with such a rock, says Prof James Alexander.

Dublin youth and youth workers protest Governments cuts at Dáil

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday January 28, 2010 14:08author by Paula Geraghtyauthor email mspgeraghty at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Hundreds of teenagers and youth workers protested at the Dail. It was LOUD and mental as it should be. Charlie O'Connor seemed to row with people wherever he went, insisting he was a Dubliner and that seemed to be his reason for attending the protest against his own government's devastating cuts. He wasn't too pleased when one of the future voters informed him he couldn't do his own job.

Turn your audio down- it's loud!

Youth Projects in Dublin are under threat of further budget cuts. Dublin Focus on Youth are calling on politicians and public officials to put a stop to these cuts. The campaign called a protest on Wednesday 27th January at 4pm at the Dail.

Siptu were out continuing their support of the community sector. Tallaght, Ballymun, Pearse Street, Poppintree, Ballyfermot and Shanganagh and Rathsallagh Youth Centre all showed up to show how to really burst those eardrums and protest.

More details below:
The Current Situation
•Youth Projects serve the needs of the most at risk young people across our city.
•A total of 33,790 young people participated in CDYSB funded youth projects in Dublin in 2008
•It costs €20 million per year keep these projects funded.
This works out at less than €12 per young person per week
•Youth Projects and Services help young people achieve their potential and are essential to creating and maintaining healthy communities. What we are looking for
•An immediate reversal of the 2009 cuts to Youthwork funding
•Funding for Youthwork projects and services to be maintained at 2008 levels for 2010 in order to maintain all frontline services to the most at risk young people in Dublin
