This is the latest update from Tyrone man John Hurson on the Viva Palestina aid convoy, which is trying to reach Gaza. It was posted on the open Facebook page 'Ireland to Gaza' earlier today. The convoy has been stranded on the Jordan/Egypt border because of a refusal by the Egyptian government to allow them cross the country to Rafah and then into Gaza:
"The latest news folks is that we may be leaving today to drive 500 miles back to Syria where we are to catch a ferry to Al Arish in Egypt.
Instead of a short crossing and 4 hours driving to Rafah, we are to take a 72 hour detour! Crazy stuff, but if that is the price to pay for getting our aid to Gaza, then so be it. The people in Gaza suffer so much more than us."
