Two individuals have been killed during an underground train collision in Washington District Columbia, USA

According to reports at least two people have been killed and dozens injured after two underground trains collided in Washington DC. The incident happened at approx 1700 local time (2200 BST) A major rescue operation is being undertaken. Even at such an early stage terrorism has been ruled out and it is widely believed that the incident was a result of a derailment.

According to reputable sources part of the city is at a complete standstill. More information will be made available as it comes in.
