Padrone, The Priory, 56 North Main Street
You are invited to an informal get together of people interested in Youghal Transition at the Padrone Restaurant, The Priory, Youghal on Tuesday, June 30 at 2.30. Meet people who are interested in the Transition Town approach, share information about local developments and discuss options for summer activities.
Youghal Transition wants to start a local dialogue about sourcing food, using less energy, learning skills for the future and working together to be ready for the changes ahead.
The idea of “Transition Town” started 70 miles west of Youghal. Kinsale hosts a Permaculture course where Climate Change and Peak Oil are studied, as well as practical skills such as growing food, designing small holdings and building with ecologically friendly materials.
Students on the course produced Kinsale’s “Energy Descent Plan”. It set out how a town could prosper by using less energy.
From this, the idea of Transition Town was born – the move from oil dependency to sustainability. Now there are over 200 Transition Town initiatives, including Midleton, Tramore, Kilkenny and Bandon.
Kinsale and Youghal are very different places. But every town in Ireland faces the same global issues, and each must determine its own way of dealing with an uncertain future.
