In the wake of the Supreme Court's landmark trans ruling, is a Gender Recognition Certificate worth anything at all? Not really, says Mark Ellse ? but our muddled politicians won't be in a rush to admit they messed up.

Given the choice between two weak tea bags, Australia elected a weak tea bag, says Rebekah Barnett. Liberal leader Peter Dutton even lost his seat, a reflection of his hopeless deficit in personality and policies.

Support needed for Rossport Solidarity Action Camp

category national | anti-capitalism | news report author Friday June 12, 2009 18:15author by peter brekkaauthor email rossportsolidaritycamp at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Support Shell to Sea from your local area- please organise benefits and fundraisers now! As well as solidarity and raising awareness of the Shell to Sea campaign, help is needed now to raise funds for the action camp.

On the evening of Monday the 1st June, dredgers and accompanying boats returned to Broadhaven Bay to begin work on the off-shore pipeline for Shell's Corrib Gas project in County Mayo, Ireland. The pipe laying ship, the Solitaire, is expected to arrive within the next few weeks.
The boats have met stiff resistance from people at the newly formed Rossport Solidarity Camp. There have been attempts to dismantle the causeway at the Shell compound and numerous water based actions against dredging work . Last week the crane one of the dredgers was occupied on two occasions, once for over 10 hours, halting work for this period.
The time frame for pipeline work is limited; if resistance can be sustained for enough time pipeline work can be halted again this year. The camp is calling for people to go to Mayo to support the struggle against Shell.

As well as the camp's usual running costs, a lot of money has been paid out recently as the Garda have been demanding 100-500 Euros bail money- this has been paid out for most of the many arrests on the water and land actions in the last few weeks. The Garda also grabbed and slashed 5 inflatable kayaks and took 1 hard kayak while making arrests on the water on Thursday morning. Please help keep this very active camp up and running! Thanks...

Donations to the running of the camp can be made to:

ACCOUNT: The Rossport Solidarity Camp Account
BANK: Bank of Ireland
SORT CODE: 905299?
A/C NUMBER: 24306733?
