Worker and Friends were arrested for "Failure to Leave" while
participating in a peace vigil that ended with a Die-In inside of the
Qwest Convention Center in Omaha. Among them was long time peace
activist Peg Gallagher who turned 90 last month.
The four Omaha peace activists who were arrested and are going to court are:
Peg Gallagher - 90
Kathy J. Peterson - 54
Mark Kenney - 51
Jerry Ebner - 58, Omaha Catholic Worker
Where: Douglas County Courthouse Room # 27, 1701 Farnam St., Omaha NE
Date: Wednesday, Nov 12th
Time: 1:30 p.m.
This is an arraignment. If they plead
guilty or no contest, the judge will probably sentence them after a
short hearing. If they plead not guilty, the judge will set a date for
the trial.

Trial of Catholic Worker/ Vietnam Veteran Michael Walli
Where: Douglas County Courthouse, 1701 Farnam St., Omaha NE

You do more time in Omaha NE if you plead innocent than if you plead
guilty.....
Supporters and members of London Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT) were at the Spirit of Christmas Fair at Olympia on Remembrance Sunday (November 9, 2008) to alert visitors to the fact that the organisers, Clarion Events have recently taken ownership of five international arms fairs, including the world’s biggest, euphemistically titled ‘Defence Systems and Equipment International’ (DSEi), held biennially in London’s Docklands. Vigil went fine following a pretty hectic weekend with the 1968 exhibition launch and party at the Goethe Gallery (ploughshares hammers on display for the next month at the Project Gallery), the Shutdown SOA vigil at U.S. embassy (12 folks) www.soaw.org on sunday afternoon and the public meeting with Martha Hennesey, Catholic Worker founder Dorothy Day's grandaughter (50 folks).
Quite a bit of effort went into outreach and promotion work went into leadup.....seems like its hard to get people (chuggers excluded) out of the churches, pub quizes and academy...maybe its the weather? So it's always good to go back to the GPO vigil to get one's bearings and see where the kids are at...pretty much shop to you drop out here. Big psychadelic French christmas tree that keeps changing colours confronting one as one vigils.
We were poretty shocked when June dropped by to informa us that Negroponte http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Negroponte was speaking at Trinity and the posters celebrating this were up for a week. We were too exhausted to muster a response and wondered of LASC or IAWM knew this guy was in town. The dude pretty much ran the contra war and central american wars in the '80's from the U.S. embassy in Honduras killing tens of thousands, before getting the recent gig in Iraq!

DES MOINES, Iowa - Trial begins this week in the case of four people who attempted to arrest former White House adviser Karl Rove during afundraising appearance earlier this year in Iowa.
Jury selection in the case was scheduled to begin Wednesday, followed by the trial.
Facing charges of trespassing are retired Methodist minister Chet
Guinn, two members of the social welfare group Des Moines Catholic Worker Community, Edward Bloomer and Mona Shaw, and former group member Kirk Brown.
The four were cited after attempting a citizen's arrest of Rove on
July 25 at the Wakonda County Club in Des Moines, where he spoke at a Republican fundraiser. They were stopped at the country club's entry gate.
