Muslim graves desecrated as Austria swings to the right

Islamophobia has replaced anti-semitism as the unifying ideology for the extreme right in Austria where neo-fascist rivals Heinz-Christian Strache and Jorg Haider utilised slogans such as “Homeland instead of Islam” and “Vienna must not become Istanbul” to make huge gains in last week’s national elections at the expense of the Conservative OeVP and Social Democrats SPOe parties . As the elections were taking place more than 90 Muslim graves were severely damaged at the cemetery in Traun, near Linz in what police believe was an organised action.

It is perhaps no coincidence that Strache chose Linz - Hitler’s favourite town - to launch his election campaign . According to a Spiegel report of the event Strache told the audience :

“to get an apartment you just have to wear a headscarf." His audience of about 2,000 people -- young men with tattoos on their calves and blondes in skin-tight jeans, but also retirees carrying their checkered shopping bags -- applauds enthusiastically. FPÖ supporters standing behind Strache hold up small signs that read: "The Homeland Needs the Middle Class," and "Asylum Fraud Means a Flight Home."

Jorg Haider was Gay (not that there's anything wrong with that)

In Austria and here in Hungary tonight the news on TV and the web is that Jorg Haider downed a bottle of vodka in a Gay Bar chatting up his (possible) boyfriend before his road accident...
