The anarchist movement in North America
Workers Solidarity Movement
In 2008 Andrew Flood spent 16 weeks speaking in 44 North American cities from Miami to Montreal to Eugene to LA. While on tour he had private discussions on organising with hundreds of local anarchists and carried out audio interviews in 17 of the cities visited. Based on these experiences and conversations he presents an audio-visual talk on the anarchist movement in North America and the new organizations that are currently emerging. The talk will also look at the general conditions face by workers in North America and some of the movements that exist in response to these conditions. The meeting will be educational but also provocative in terms of considering the parallels with Britain. The meeting is for anarchists, activists and anyone interested in North American radicalism.

"Hackney Wasn't Crap" Report of S29 Walking Tour of Gentrification Report
& Tips for Anarcho Organising in your Local Community!

http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/09/409669.html

Dalston, where last week's walk began, is the home of the London Catholic Worker house of hospitality for homeless refugees and the London Catholic Worker Cafe www.londoncatholicworker.org

Last weekend's walk was organised by London Coalition Against Poverty a founding member of "Hackney Solidarity" along with the London Catholic Worker and Hackney Independent (a group of anarchists and other grassroots lefties commited to working class activism in neighborhoods).

Hackney Solidairty http://www.hackneysolidarity.info/ is a good model for anarchist activist/organising/networking and there is a hope, growing out of the recent Dublin Grassroots 08 conference and the now defunct AAA (Anti Authoritarian Assembly), that the model could be adopted and finetuned for Dublin.

A similar group, Haringey Solidairty http://www.haringey.org.uk/with local activist/organising focus (remember London is a humungous metropolis!) will be conducting a workshop "Why Anarchists ShouldOrganise Locally"Venue: Room EB4A Time: 1pm-2pm at the forthcoming 018 London Anarchist Bookfair which is usually well atended by Irish anarchists.
