Catholic Peace Groups Protest at Canada House
Story by Paul Donovan
http://www.totalcatholic.com/tc/index.php?option=com_co...id=34
Catholic groups demonstrated outside Canada House in London on Tuesday in protest against the deportation of US soldiers who refused to fight in Iraq and sought asylum in Canada.
The protest included members of the Catholic Worker Movement, Pax Christi and the Fellowship of Reconciliation as well as Voices in the Wilderness.
Giant placards bearing pictures of the resisters and the words 'Canada: Stop Deporting US Soldiers Who Refuse to Fight in the Illegal War in Iraq. Grant Them Sanctuary' were exhibited outside.
There are currently at least 12 US soldiers in Canada seeking asylum. They have refused to take part in the invasion and occupation of Iraq which was deemed "illegal" by the UN Secretary General.
If they are returned to the US, they face lengthy prison sentences.
