Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Martin Luther King
On the 9th of July 1999 police forces, plainclothes men belonging to the regime-controlled pressure groups and special units of the Intelligence Ministry attacked students who were protesting peacefully in their dormitories against the closure of a popular newspaper, setting rooms on fire, beating up students, throwing them out from windows which resulted in killing and wounding the students. The attack caused anger and brought support for the students from across the country and including other students, teachers and workers.
This year alone Iran has been condemned by many international human rights organizations including Amnesty International and UNHCR for its systematic violation of human rights specifically on the following:
Death penalty
(For instance 21 executions in April and 18 in June).
Execution of children
(At least seven minors at the time of the crime were executed and at least 75 other child offenders remained on death row his year. One of these children was 13 at the time he allegedly committed the crime).
Discrimination against women
Stoning
Human rights abuse against the religious and ethnic minorities
Torture and ill-treatment
Lack of Freedom of speech, etc.
We call on the Irish representatives to stand with the people of Iran and condemn the systematic violation of human rights by the oppressive dictatorship and support the peaceful movement for freedom and democracy.
